Forums - Gaming - Same Engine? Same Gameplay? Same Basic Features? In a New Game?

You're very brave for making a 'Rant - Thread'.

For that I'll give you kudos.

Good luck, my friend.

So for you a new story is not enough to make a new game? many of the things that you said are expansions an not true squeals are bigger than the first. How is it bad to use the same engine if it worked well? No every company needs to try and do things like final fantasy where they have nothing to do with the prior games at all. Uncharted 2 was leaps and bounds above the first yet you think it's a handful of additions? There is a whole new story new places new puzzles new characters but it is a very different game from the first. Plus the whole addition of multiplayer. If you are calling Killzone a Halo Clone you have a very wide definition of clone. Might as well try and say any first person shooter is a clone of other first person shooters. I didn't hear you call uncharted a tomb raider clone yet to some that's what it is. Personally I've been rather happy with the last few years of gaming and looking forward to the next few as well. If a game reviews well that I'm not interested in I'll still not be interested in it. If a clone of a game I liked looks good and different enough from the original why not? If it's done well why not enjoy it.

Because I play a video game, if I want a story I read a book or watch a movie. I didn't say they shouldn't exist, I said they should be expansions to the old game, and priced accordingly. Also it's because of people like you that gaming is becoming a joke and good games are so far and in between nowadays.

Nothing wrong, it's just that you generally have lot's of gamers who seize upon the opportunity to take disagree with you and they kinda tend to gang up on you. So it's brave. Nothing wrong with it.

If you don't want a story in a video game then don't play story based video games there are plenty of puzzle games out there or shooters and since you seem to love you certain few games that only have 2 or 3 good ones a year go enjoy them and the rest of us will enjoy all that you miss. A book or a movie will have a story go only one way in video games I have influence with what the outcome will be not n all story based ones but in many my actions have an affect on the outcome of the game. Reading or movies it will be the same every time I have no choice in the matter.

What you want is that single amazing game that you can play for 10 years, but not everyone is like you. I personally enjoy playing a new game with a new story. I loved playing Uncharted 2 and think it's silly to expect it to cost less than the original. You want consoles to be like computers, but I would prefer they just stay like consoles. I don't see why you can't find the great game that you want to play for 10 years while I continue playing new games all the time. Why does everyone have to conform to your tastes?

Welcome to the future of gaming entertainment. It's a shame that the industry has so quickly got to where Hollywood is now - high cost, low risk ventures that try and repeat a winning formula until it won't hold water, then desperately cast about for a new formula to last another few years.

It's understandable in terms of the high cost of big games, and the risks of failure, but it's the sad side of high commercialism over creativity in the entertainment industry.

Also, so long as masses flock to but something like MW2 - which really felt like a even more frenetic repeat of the previous title - things aren't going to change anytime soon.

The problem is particularly an issue on consoles, which are closed environments. On PC I can download lots of new, freely made L4D campaigns - but on 360, I'd have to pay to get a two level expansion campaign (not just picking on 360 BTW, PS3 has same issues with other titles).

Joe Public always has the casting vote with their wallets, but looking at the sales for most popular franchise expansions I'd say for the moment they've voted for more of the same please.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Because I'm forced to conform to your tastes in games which is basically translated into the same olf thing, and costs the same. Imagine if all books from now on were like Twlight, that's how I feel with gaming right now.

Noone is forcing you to buy all of these "clones" that you hate seeing succeed. Just fine the one original game and play it forever since that appears to be what you want.
