Forums - Gaming - 360 & PS3 Graphical Differences Explained. Interesting Read!

I don't really care that much for all the techy stuff, all that matters to me is the end result. Nothing against those that do have an interest in such.

Some people are so console-biased that their judgement is severely prejudiced on graphics.
The x360 boys held on to their belief that Gears2 was better than K2 even when MS themselves claimed that K2 was superior graphically but added that x360 was capable of similar or better.

As for graphics I deal with the here and now and U2 and K2 are the best graphics on any console as any respectable non-biased reviewer will confirm.

K4, Alan Wake etc., are the future and a few souped up videos on youtube are not the final articles (could be better or worse).

Multiplats favouring x360 in graphics is generally true.

About ten years ago I used to research this a lot, back when the PS2 and Dreamcast were coming out. But then I reached the conclusion it wasn't useful. And as time went on the huge improvements we used to see became little tiny details of improvement, no longer fun to pour attention into.

And besides, it didn't make the games more fun. The first time I really had this epiphany in a serious manner was when I played MGS1 on PlayStation after having owned a Japanese Dreamcast and a gaming PC. The game looked terrible to me, but it was awesome and very immersive.

I wonder why Sony chose the GPU that they did.

It seems that most people here on the forums reluctantly acknowledge that the GPU on the 360 is superior in a standalone sense.

Are the rumours of a dual Cell system true ? Did Sony make a late design change and assume the Cell would be use to boost the power of the GPU easily from day one.

One day all this will come out and I think it will make a great read.

Reading it makes it pretty obvious that he doesn't really understand what hes talking about and hes just parroting someone else. The fact that you didn't pick up on this fact CGI makes me think you don't know what you're talking about either. (no offense intended)

Maybe it's the other way around?

nice read but its not really anything new to me. i always assumed the ps3 and 360 had different ways of pocessing their gpu. it just makes everything clearer to me now. even though graphics mean nothing to me when deciding between the two. i do prefer which version has less bugs for example, the PS3 version of alone in the dark is better than the 360 because eden games took the time out to revamp and make use of the ps3 technology. @tyrannical no not all textures are compressed, and yes blu rays have slower access speed but thats the reason for the install, it takes the uncompressed textures and audio puts them on the hard drive so it doesnt have to wait,

and also Uncharted2 uses the unreal engine and naughty dog just offloaded the GPU calculations to the SPU's it just takes time changing the code, which is why i think the devs just get lazy or dont care enough, not only that but naughty dog had to use the assembly language to actually task it efficiently

I think it would more or less be the same game. All the Final Fantasy remakes offer a very similar experience to the originals. It would be the same game, just with different visuals.

Agreed to disagree, I don't think just visuals would be down scaled. Take Dead Rising and Dead Space for instance, both were downscaled for the Wii, both are very different games from the originals. In this case, MGS4/Killzone2/Uncharted 2 would not be the same games on the Wii, or even the 360 for that matter, as they are on PS3. They have many similarities but not be the same. There's nothing wrong with that either, they just wouldn't be the same games.

Dead Space Extraction is not a downsizing of Dead Space... it's a different game in a different genre.

As for Dead Rising, that's hardly a good example of a good downsizing. Looks like a very cheap effort as far as I've seen.

The point is, the PS3 games mentioned wouldn't be the same on the Wii. There are reasons the games I mentioned aren't the same games on the Wii, and technical specifications are at the forefront.

That is pure speculation on your part, especially in the case of Dead Space. There is no indication at all that hardware power was the primary reason why Dead Space Extraction was an on-rail game.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^
