Forums - Gaming - 360 & PS3 Graphical Differences Explained. Interesting Read!

I just despair....Reasonable

Given the comments on the boards you have to question how much coding the average forum member has done.

No coding experience is no bad thing. However when the self same members start making sweeping remarks about the nuances of programming, paradigms used and other constraints you really do have to wonder about their motives for comment.

I'm pretty sure plenty of people with zero coding, SDK, level editing, etc. experience merrily comment to satisfy their bias.  Strange really, but there you go.

I'm interested in the facts, but I really don't have any pre-agenda on interpretation.  The fact the PS3 requires better organized code (so far as i can gather from various sources including developers themselves) is to me something of interest, but it doesn't inform what I think of the console - ditto for the 360 and it's own coding nuances.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Does that means Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 are not possible on 360?

In their current forms, no. Let's keep it civil though...

They are possible on Wii if its scaled down enough. They are possible on N64 if they were scaled down enough. Uncharted 2 would still be Uncharted 2 whether it is on the PS3 or not. Graphics don't make the game. Same reason Perfect Dark > Perfect Dark Zero.

Once they are scaled down enough, they wouldn't be the same games no would they?

I think it would more or less be the same game. All the Final Fantasy remakes offer a very similar experience to the originals. It would be the same game, just with different visuals.

Naughty dog did an amazing job with the PS3 Hardware

Summary:

PS3 has stronger CPU but weaker GPU
360 has stronger GPU
PS3 CPU can be used to help GPU

end performance =nearly identical.

Well, the way it seems people believe is that PS3 gets a slightly higher quality picture (when TV settings are adjusted of course), but Xbox gets a more consistent, and higher frame rate and less screen tearing. So it comes down to preference, do you prefer a slight sharper image, or better performance?

Really seems to depend on a case by case basis, and there are times when the Xbox version also looks better.

A turn based RPG may be able to be scaled down, but not a fast paced fps, or tps. Story can be the same, but gameplay mechanics would be effected.

the 360 will need to decompress textures to be able to run the game smoothly because of the limitations the DVD creates and the none mandatory hard drive.

That's a load of bull shit. ALL textures are compressed, and the PS3 textures are usually compressed more. Not only because of the difficulty with the PS3's split memory, but also because of the much slower Blu-Ray access speed.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

everything would need to be simplified. From visuals, to animations, to ai etc. Would also need to remove the actual vistas, add some nearby fogg and replace the big views with simple pictures.

Check out my game about moles ^

Actually, the 360 version usually has the sharper image as well, due to the AA being used.

^^ Dont you mean smoother edges??
