I would be more surprised if they didn't fight with police.

For some countries... soccer means more then anything.

Back when the US was going to play Mexico... 75% of Mexicans said it would be a National Tragedy if they lost...

For a lot of countries, football is almost a way of life. Supporters from rival clubs hate each others and disturbances are quite common.

Mexico won.

Landon Donovan had Swine Flu and in general the US collapsed in the second half.

US players were getting bags of puke thrown on em the whole game... and the stadium itself is physically indimidating and i believe at an elevated height.

Mexico might have the strongest home field advantage in the Americas.  Offset of course by the fact that they don't have the strongest team.
