Forums - Gaming - Saddest moments in any video game (56K and huge spoiler warning)

@perpride

The one I remember the most is the old lady in the farm that Kain helped for some summers while he was travelling. Each summer he would return there to help her. One summer, the country in which the farm was located got struck by war and he found the farm decimated and the old lady dead. It was heartbreaking to read :(

@Perpride and ShadowSoldier

I don't think it's about developers not having the balls to do it, it's more, can the target public handle it? If snake really offed himself, would most MGS fans forgive kojima? The public and the fans are very volatile people, developers have to thread on thin ground when they develop very delicate situations suchs as those two.

Imagine in FFVII what would have been the fan backlash had Cloud actually killed Aeris himself? I think SquareSoft could have been sued :P

Another sad moment is reading some of the stories in Lost Odyssey, it was really moving makes you wonder how Cry On would move us.

Agreed.

A couple of highlights from it that I remember:

The prisoner who went blind after finally being released.

The soldier who was returning from war and got killed by the drunk trying to protect Kaim, not knowing Kaim was immortal.

@ShadowSoldier - This kindof goes back to what I was talking about with Lost Odyssey earlier in the thread. Lost Odyssey had the potential to be the most heartbreaking game of all time. Similarly, killing Snake would have been the most epic and powerful moment in video gaming (IMO). However, developers don't have the balls to do things like that. Shit, if Kojima DID in fact kill of Snake, then we would all be sitting here complaining about the fact that Solid Snake died.

Yeah. Lol I agree with it being like a thankless job for Kojima. But such is the way of greatness. However, Lost Odyssey had tons of emotional moments and I remember being sourly dissappointed when I found out Cry On was cancelled. I hope we hear about something from Mistwalker for 360 in 2010

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

@ Lost Oddysey...meh the 360 can keep it lol.

That scene from Kingdom Hearts I remember very well. It was touching

but hella fun walking around as a shadow heartless later on

"All you base are belong to us".........HUH?

I did get sad a lot in Lost Odyssey mostly after Kaim stops being a robot...

Former something....

@Dystopia

I remember that moment now, Xenogears had so many moments that really left your heart in a tight spot, I remember one in which Fei has a dream about him being young and lost in a desert or something of the sort. Feel free to post more in here :)

@ShadowSoldier

I think rumors arised that Mistwalker was working on a new title, hopefully we'll hear more from them soon

@Blacksaber

That's true, once he gets his memories back, that's when you start seeing the true emotional value of LO. And what better way than to kick it off with Lirum's death? Also the memories are really heart wrenching as well.

@Scottpot

I loved Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 as well. There's a scene in KH2 which also was very sad, i'll try finding it out tommorrow, it's 3 A.M in here XD

^ Fei's dream. Fei is a really tragic figure though, encompassing memories from 500 years of pain and seperation.  All the things that happened to keep him and Elly apart really hit hard through out the game.

@Dystopia

That's the one! I now have this massive urge to go and play Xenogears once again >_
Fei's struggles throughout the game are amongst the best character portrayal ever made ;)

@lestatdark: Yeah, that's the real strength of Xenogears, you really feel for the characters (and god are they put through endless torment). But at least the ending makes up for all that suffering. It's not just Fei though, it seems every character goes through something horrible. Billy and his mother and what that does to the relationship with his father. Bart's troubled history, Rico's exile, Maria's and her father, etc.

Final Fantasy X's ending is the only part of a videogame that has actually caused me to cry.
