Forums - General - Your favorite R&B artist?

It's time that someone on vgchartz showed a little love to one of my favorite musical genres.  Some of my favorite R&B artist are The Temptations (1964-71 after that they lost their greatness), The Isley Bothers, The Commodores, The Gap Band, Marvin Gaye, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson,  and Earth Wind & Fire just to name a few.  So what are some of your all time favorite R&B artist?

Do The Supremes count? If so, that's my choice. I absolutely adore Diana Ross' voice.

Marvin Gaye. His collection of great songs was just timeless.

^^Of course the Supremes count its one of the main bands that catapulted Motown Records to greatness. Also its still one of the best female bands ever regardless of genre.

I don't know if I like Gaye or Stevie Wonder better but damn, they're both excellent choices.

Too bad Marvin's dad didn't feel the same way.

^^Etta James used to have a good voice but she sounds terrible now. Also she is a big time hater now since no one cares about her anymore.

I happened to be at a gay pride festival this summer where James was playing... pretty meh. I wasn't impressed at all.

Marvin's life was getting out of control years before that tragic incident so he would have had a untimely dead regardless.  I think it is more tragic how most of original Temptations died and Sam Cooke's, Otis Redding's and Jackie Wilson's death where also very tragic.
