I always observed how less powerful systems had a tendency to win cycles. And how smaller companies having more freedom to publish games resulted in more marketshare for the platform holder, also games with unusually high budgets not taking center stage in favor of smaller games.
I honestly used to look at these factors separately and think "the less powerful consoles tend to win", and "smaller budgets tend to make the bigger games". Those things have particular separate advantages, like people become more creative and prices being lower etc. But for the first time I'm really focusing on the common denominator, which seems to be the "perceived" most democratic environment possible. Has anyone else thought of this?
PS. I say perceived because obviously a lot of these third parties get controlled by very centralized agendas, but nevertheless the nature of being independent companies creates a perception of freedom, which is what I'm focusing on.
