Well going by our data here is the current sales of DS and PS2:
DS- 116,473,396
PS2- 133,272,235
That is through the week ending November 28, 2009. Now last week DS sold 1.7 million and PS2 sold 156,000. The gap currently is a little under 17 million. DS in the last 5 weeks last year sold a solid 8 million so I would expect at least 8-10 million this year as well putting it around 124.4-126.4 million. PS2 sold 1.5 imllion in its last 5 weeks last year but I expect that to be way down to around 800k-1000k. Therefore at the end of 2009 we should be at about these numbers which is the median between the tolerances:
DS- 125.4 million
PS2- 134.1 million
Thus the gap will be about 8.7 million and then from thereon out it's pretty much going to be how much DS sells rather than comparing it to PS2. It's doubtful PS2 will have too much staying power in 2010 with no strong set of releases or real backing from Sony any further along with a strong PS3. So givne DS selling trends and factoring in DSi LL, it is quite possible we could be celebrating a new best selling video game system by as early as summer 2010. And then of course DS may even be well over 150 million by the end of 2010.
Of course this is factoring in nothing significantly disturbs the trend. But that's about what we are looking at.
