Forums - Sales - This will be a very long generation!!

I think this will be a very long generation as:

1 - All current consoles have attained a considerable market share and have healthy sales both hardware and software

2 - The consoles are powerfull (specially the HD twins) and with a lot of potential;

3 - Sony and Microsoft will try to make as much profit as possible to recoup last and current gen losses;

4 - Emerging markets are huge (China, India, Brasil,...) and much less demanding (i.e. Sony just opened a new PS2 factory in Brasil);

 We have to keep in mind that a new console represents a big investment for both manufactors and developers and currently, excepting Nintendo, none seems to be laughing all the way to the bank. This might make Nintendo think twice before making a new machine as the risk of being "ignored" by third parties unwiling to invest so soon in a new machine is very real  IMO

That said I believe that the big three will keep on updating their consoles with slims, Natals, motion +,... for a few years. I don't see a next system before 2012, and even when the next system launches I'm very confident that the current systems won't be discontinued for some years more. In fact I'm very confident that by 2015 you will still find upgrades of the pswii360 on a store near you (and even some ps2 !! )

Quote --->  about X360, MS made a BIG anti-piracy system, it is called 3RLs, or RRoD. I know a bunch of ppl afraid to open a X360 and void warrant because they will need it...

I hope this generation is over ASAP...Im tired of seeing the PlayStation brand to be so inferior considering previous generations...god damn it!

i think Sony and MS will try to make as much money this gen and keep both
consoles on the market for may be 2 years longer then they did with past consoles.
iam not ready for the next gen yet this gen is hiting full swing

That's a learning experience Sony's got to take seriously. The PS3 is a better equipped system than ANY of Sony's previous consoles, in fact the PS2 and PS1 were both inferior pieces of technology in comparison to their competition. Fact remains, Sony had their heads on correctly during those gens. This gen, they stormed in like a lost child in a shopping mall, and because of such, will lose the gen......handily. Perhaps future generations will see major success for Sony, but like a baby to a man, you must learn to stand before you can walk.

They must learn this all over again to once again be #1 in this industry.

Why do i have this feeling,that Sony will keep bringing high-tech consoles from now on,and keep giving us a higher price tag than the other companies...Can't they understand?they just need a machine that can run their beloved franchises with no problems!Nothing more needed!

The PS3 laid the foundation for a modestly higher-speced PS4. There won't be a high-priced PlayStation ever again. Sony now sees their success again with an affordable, more user-friendly, PS3.

Looking at those Nintendo numbers,i wonder if its not too late for PlayStation to regain its audience...

Let's remember something, Nintendo didn't take the PlayStation's audience, they found a brand new one. They expanded the industry, again, just as PlayStation did in the 90s. Difference there was, PlayStation DID take a HUGE chunk of Nintendo's audience, and 3rd Party support from them as well, kind of like the 360 has done to the PS3 and Sony.

PlayStation can be #1 again, but that's up to Sony and the reception they receive from consumers in future generations.

Well i hope it gets at least #2 this generation...After the losses Sony took,thats the least they can have...
