Microsoft's not that bad off. Upcoming (2010 or later) exclusives with a chance of hitting over 5m imo...

Xbox 360
-Halo Reach (MGS)

PlayStation 3
-Gran Turismo 5 (SCEI)

Wii
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo)
-The Legend of Zelda (Nintendo)
-Dragon Quest X (Square Enix)

MS has nothing left.

GT5 will end its life in Europe.

What draws you to this conclusion though?

The next price cut will have minimal affect seeing how it will be small, no more 100 of.  Next one is at best 50 more likely 30 of arcade and 50 of pro.

The biggest exclisives have already been milked this gen.   The software will a hell of a lot sale but wont push any hardware.

I dont think there are any "system seller" games left for any console TBH, its more about system seller "genres"...

But honestly, Xbox's last - and biggest - advantage is the simple fact that more people have one. IE: more XBL gamers, so if your buying a console to game with your buddies, the odds favor you having more buddies to game with on Xbox.

No XBL is NOT bigger then PSN because a lot of xbox360 owners dont pay for online and so they dont use XBOX Live. PS3 are 27 Million PSN Users. i dont know how big the Numbers in Xboxlive are but I think i have read something like 13 Million payed subscricptions so on the planet earth are WAY more PSN PS3 players then Xboxlive players. you maye surprised but I know exactly 2 persons with an Xboxlive subscription and dozends of people with PSN.

I think there's issues of scale here. Frankly it doesn't make sense to me when someone says Halo Reach won't be a "system seller", then in the next breath say FFXIII will be a "sysetm seller" in Japan when the reality is FFXIII's JP hardware bump will probably be less than Reach's US hardware bump.

Microsoft has a lot of unknowns next year in Natal, and games like Alan Wake. 360's pretty well established so it's easy to assume people who want games like Halo, Crackdown, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell or Fable sequels already have the system, but then I'd counter that extremely rare you have one game that can singularly drive hardware significantly anyway. On 360, I'd say Halo 3 did it. On Wii there was Wii Sports, Wii Fit and now probably NSMBWii. I don't think PS3's ever really had one, though GT5 looks like it could come closest to that level (but still isn't a sure thing). DS had a few (Nintendogs, Brain-Age, NSMB, Pokemon), PSP didn't.

PS3 had one "MGS4" if it wasn't for that game PS3 sales could have continue to fallen. The battle for 2nd place between the could have ended on 2008. That game really helps to diffrentiate PS3 to the 360.

let's see, the ps3 still has some great sellers coming out...

Gran Turismo 5...it's huge WorldWide.
Final Fantasy XIII...Japan is the place where it sells best, so we can expect a system seller right here.
God Of War 3...believe me, this one will be really big in NA and maybe in EU.

New IPs (possible system sellers).. Agent, Heavy Rain.
Also we've the PS Motion Controller (with a good advertising it could be big hit.)

now 360...

Splinter Cell: Conviction, is not as big as any of the ps3 system sellers, but it'll be like uncharted.

..
...

yep, that's it.

New IPs (possible system sellers)... Alan Wake.

but then, we've natal, fable 3, halo:reach & probably gears 3.

I will bookmark this thread, just like the several I still have saved from back in July 2008, when many stated that the 360 line-up and a price-cut would not have much of an effect on hardware.

The 2010, 360 line-up looks amazing, even without Natal.

Sony is doing amazing and will continue to do so, however, the comments about MS has nothing left, just make me laugh. Hardware will continue to be sold from each maker consistently.

Among people who actively play multiplayer games, which outside JPN  is dominated by the FPS genre, XBL comes out on top by a mile. Having PSN and using it to play with your friends, and it being a system seller of "come play with us" is not as large a factor. "Halo effect", basically. Most of the "peer pressure" as far as getting a console that I have personally witnessed, is Xbox related. I have witnessed it enough that combined with overall greater FPS numbers and presence, it seems sane to say that what I have witnessed is not an isolated trend. Cliques of regular online console multiplayer gamers seem much more focused on XBL, overall. Especially in the USA, where Xbox still has a huge lead.

EDIT: In "Others" huge number of online "football" (soccer) players and more even numbers between PS3 and Xbox may make this advantage mostly USA based.

And for GoW 3 - I think it is something of a system seller, but more of an added "genre presence" , the "3rd person action game" which Sony seems to have a leg up on. Also, the logical time for people to get a PS3 for GoW3 is Xmas, so chances of a GoW3 related sales spike at launch are nil IMO.

Ok then in Japan and europe PSN is obviously much bigger then Xbox Live there are two reasons first one is In japan are 3 times more PS3s then Xbox360s and in Europe are half a million more PS3s then 360 (until now) and a lot xbox user dont have Xbox live so PSN is bigger in the bigger part of the market.

PSN Numbers>Xboxlive numbers..

Europe, well, among "active cliques of gamers" of the type that produce peer pressure to buy? Yeah, maybe so, its hard to say for me because I am not European and do not understand the social mechanics in regards to gaming as much over there, whats popular, etc. JPN I took as understood of not applying, simply because Xbox is more or less a non-factor there and will continue to be so.

Though overall numbers of people who can use the service are not the deciding factor, number of people actively playing group-oriented online games is. But, it is true that USA may be the only region strongly influenced in this way in favor of Xbox and I probably should have reflected that in my original post.
