Actually, Blu-ray is not region locked in 95% of cases. They do have region codes (A, B, C, etc), but few studios bother to region lock them. You can import BRs and the chances are highly likely that it'd work. There are just a few exceptions where the movie studio decided to region lock for whatever reason.
I thought all Blu Ray movies were region locked, but I've seen more and more region free ones these days. I wish it was as simple as making a US account on my PS3 and playing the Blu Ray from that menu .... maybe it is? xD

Like Wiped said; in most cases they aren't, and never have been. For the few that are, I doubt your method would work though.
