Random question that popped in my head earlier today.

Lets say it's the zombie apocolypse and you're traveling with a loved one or someone you're somewhat attached to emotionally in some way.  While traveling to safety you get bitten by a zombie saving the other person saving them but getting yourself infected.

Would it be a sin to kill yourself to save that person from yourself?

Two assumptioms we're making:

1. The other person won't kill you and you can't find any other non-infected
2. You believe suicide is a sin.

If you don't kill yourself, what do you do?

You just get another person to kill you. Say your loved one

You mean from the point of view that suicide is a sin?

Committing suicide to actually protect loved ones is not a bad thing, though I think regular suicides are by people who needed more help. It's not really a sin to me in any way.

Whoops, yeah forgot to mention-- the loved one won't kill you and this is assuming you think suicide is a sin.

It's no fun to think this question over otherwise.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be considered a sin because you would be preventing yourself from turning into an unholy minion of the Devil.

At least, that's how it works for vampires... in movies.

I think only Catholics fully believe that suicide is like an instant permaban from Heaven.  I've never looked into much with my denomination, but I think there are obvious cases where killing yourself or committing all types of sins are sacrificial and helpful.  Say you are captured by terrorists and they want to know how to launch a nuke at the US or something.  I don't think God would look down on you for lying in that situation.

I think that is a catholic only thing. But yes, it would still be a sin in their books. All of the mortal sins have no excape clauses no matter what. For instance a child molester that killed themselves to save children wouldn't be doing themself any favors.

That's their fault. They're a bad person. It's not a good person's fault though if they get bitten by a zombie. A good life should not be judged because a dog, person or something else gives you a disease you did not want.
