Out of 20 Wii games I own, only 3 are third party, seriously, third parties need to step up on the Wii

Now, whose fault is that? The third parties' for not making Wii games, or yours for not buying them and supporting their efforts? Because I can sure as hell name more than three quality third party Wii games. Off the top of my head:

-Zack and Wiki

-MadWorld

-No More Heroes

-World at War

-The Conduit

Five, without even thinking.

I own Zack and Wiki, had no interest in any of the other games on your list

what does interest you?

The three third party games I own are RE4 Wii, Rabbids go home, Zack and Wiki, recent Nintendo games I bought, Wii Sports resort, Wii Fit plus, Metroid Prime Trilogy and New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Would it be safe to say you're more interested in nintendo/nintendo-style games?

I'm more interested in good games, Nintendo tends to bring out good games consistently, in fact when people ask me what good games to get on Wii or DS, I tell them to stick primarily to Nintendo games, I tell them its hard to go wrong with a Nintendo made game

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

"But when the Wii does get a "large" third party game, while it does sell very well, it doesn't match the sales of the HD versions."

World At War on the Wii did not follow 4, which made the series the smash hit it is now. The Wii had a two year gap between CoD games. This is relevant because you are implying the Wii audience did this, when there are factors that would have made the game sell less on the other systems had those been duplicated.

That's true.  In fact, before Activision mishandled the series on Wii by skipping a year, COD3 sold about evenly across Wii and PS3.  Who knows, if they'd have had Treyarch getting Reflex ready for release alongside MW1, maybe the current Wii COD sales would still be in line with PS3?   Activision could've potentonially had another 3-4m selling SKU rather than just a 1m selling one?

The difference in how Activision and their teams handled and cultivated the audience for Guitar Hero and Call of Duty on Wii is pretty interesting...

An exemple of the wii getting a "large" third party game

Cmon, i wanna hear it.

Silent Hill?

Silent Hill isn't large, it hasn't been since SH3.  I bet the Shattered Memories doesn't tank as hard as the Homecoming did though (yet another HD bomb).

Well, this is going back to its roots. It seems that a lot of effort and care was put into it. Let's hope it has good marketing. If it does all those things, then WHY will it bomb? What will be the excuse? Because is niche?

True.

However, MWR followed WaW, and so did MW2, and we know how that ended up.

Not exactly a fair comparison, but you can see what I'm getting at.

Really not fair. It had no marketing, and very little shelf space, all to ensure MW2 had the biggest opening ever. So again, not the same conditions. As jarrod ponted out, 3 had the same conditions, and the sales were around the same as the HD versions. Even before WaW came out, 3 was matching the sales of the PS3 version.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I think there is enough quality on the Wii , i think what most people want is the big productions from the 3rd parties , the blockbusters which are pretty much only thing that sells on HD consoles (and they sell well, so they will stay there)

Companies like Capcom , Ubisoft make enough money on PS360 so they dont feel need for putting much investment into the Wii (they usually allocate smaller team and limited resources to do so called "crappy" game) I really cant see how this trend would reverse, Nintendo could moneyhat but they have refused to do it (and to be honest they dont have to cause their system sells like crazy)

Developing HD games is also 'risky'. Just ask Free Radical, GRiN, Sega Racing Studio, Factor 5, Pandemic Studios...

You know what all of those studios had in common? They made crappy games, and paid the price.

Sega Rally Revo was pretty much the opposite of crappy.  And it still bombed so hard Sega closed the developer within six months.

Actually, Sega's one of the few publishers to really have almost nothing but bombs on the HD machines and some ridiculous success on Wii.

The exception to the rule is not the rule.

How does Sega have "nothing but bombs" on the HD consoles, exactly?

As an aside, Sega's most successful Wii game has Mario in it.

Sega million sellers by platform this gen...

DS: 3

Wii: 5

360: 1 (via hardware bundling)

PS3: 0

PSP: 0

Let's leave the DS out of this. It gets a TON of third party support.

Wii SEGA million sellers:

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Well, this has Mario, so that's kind of cheating. Make a 360 game with Master Chief, or a PS3 game with...Crash Bandicoot, and we'll talk.

Sonic and the Secret Rings & Sonic Unleashed: Weren't both considered to be quite lackluster?

Super Monkey Ball and House of the Dead: Valid. Both rather large series, to be sure.

Most of SEGA's games on the HD consoles are niche. They have one Sonic game, and a terrible one at that. The Wii can sell Sonic games, that's for sure.

HotD's a large series?  Afaik the Wii port of 2&3 is the first one to break a million units since HoTD2 back in the 1990s, and HotD3 didn't even break 500k.  HotD was basically extinct on consoles until Wii revived it.  Ditto for Monkey Ball (which all sold like shit after SMB2 in 2002).

Sega's HD games are niche?  Really?  Virtua Fighter 5, Sega Rally Revo, Iron Man, Armored Core 4, Beijing Olympics, Phantasy Star Universe, Full Auto 1-2, Virtua Tennis 3/2009, the Golden Compass, Golden Axe, Condemned 1-2, Universe at War, Stormrise, Yakuza 3/Kenzan, The Club, Viking, Incredible Hulk, Bayonetta, Initial D and 2 Sonic games were all niche now?

so you are more interested in nintendo games. It seems to me that nintendo fans think/feel nintendo games are the best of the best, and pretty much every third party is mediocre to or average at best. Almost as if no one can make a game as well as nintendo. Which is why we get a lot of "third parties hate the wii" type threads, when its really nintendo fans hate third parties.

IMHO of course. I don't mean to offend anyone, but thats what it seems like to me.

"I really cant see how this trend would reverse"

Either big third party hits convince them, or they practically go bankrupt by putting all their eggs in HD.

Note I did not write "putting any eggs in the HD basket". I wrote "putting all".

Survival Horror is totally niche these days.  I think Shattered Memories Wii might end up being the best selling game in the series this gen, it's getting really good buzz and now it looks like Konami may actually push it as a result... but I'm not expecting big things from this series.  It won't even crack 500k imo.

@cgkc17

If third parties delivered to Nintendo quality or even beat Nintendo games, it wouldn't be an issue
