Forums - Sony - What will keep momentum for The Playstation 3 high?

Ps3 Super Slim.

Since the slim isn't really slim.

Looking forward to: FF Versus XIII / LBP2 / The Last Guardian / Yakuza 4 / ICO Collection

The fact that it's still selling at a price of $299 and $350 (so in other words many price cuts to come) and also the PS3's biggest games have not even released yet. They can always make a GT6, FFXIV, and more Team ICO games.

The PS3 has got a long way to go, 10 year plan baby!

I'm sure by the time that a Final Fantasy 14, Gran Turismo 6, and a fourth Team ICO title is released, most will already have a PS3 and Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo 5, and the Last Guardian.  What new reason will there in 2011 or 2013 to buy a PS3?

lol, people said the same thing after MGS4 came out. Sony won't stop making games.

I think we should wait for E3 2010 to see what Sony has planned.

In 2011 we'll see at the very least Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3 (unless Killzone 3 makes it out for the 2010 holidays, which I doubt), and by the end of 2010 and into 2011, we should start seeing what Lightbox, Sony Liverpool, Sony London, and SCEJ have in the pipe for ps3 (remember that SCEJ only just announced that they would start focusing on ps3 over PSP).

I wouldn't be worried about games from Sony's first and second parties. For example, we know Lightbox and Eat Sleep Play are working on Starhawk and Twisted Metal, respectively, and it's just a matter of when they'll be ready. We haven't seen a single year for ps3 that has had less than five quality first party releases hit the platform since 2006, and the deeper we get into this gen, the more comfortable Sony's teams get with the ps3's architecture, and the quicker their output of games becomes. This year was their biggest year yet (Killzone, Demon's Souls, Infamous, Uncharted, Ratchet), with next year looking to top it (MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War, Gran Turismo, the Last Guardian, and probably Resistance 3 and something else for the holidays).

We'll probably see another price cut by then as well.

Sony doesn't have to worry about keeping up their momentum so much so as they have to worry about their competitors swinging momentum back in their favor. Nintendo and Microsoft have a number of tricks up their sleeves, from Wii Motion + Zelda, to Dragon Quest X, to Natal.

2009 games
2010 games price cut
2011 games price cut
2012 games price cut
and so on

Yes they can maintain the momentum, reason being that not everybody buys a system as soon as there is a price cut. As ridiculous as it sounds, there are still a bunch of people that I know that still claim that the PS3 has no games, so if a few games come out that interests them, then they'd buy it.

God knows what Sony has up there sleeves, but anything can happen look what they did to Killzone 2 and making it look like it was a game made by gods and everyone must own. There more then likely going to keep coming out with new IP's. Maybe they'll get some game exclusives, god knows what effect the PS Wand or Sphere is going to have on the consumers. Don't forget the Playstation user base is pretty huge, people that owned a PS2 will eventually likely buy a PS3.

But the biggest thing would be price cuts. The PS3 will likely be $299 during all of 2010 or atleast most of it until there next price cut. So I'd say 2010 -2016 will consist of price cuts, the big AAA games, maybe even another Slimmer version of the PS3 (kind of like what they did with the PSP). Also 3D is coming to the PS3 so we'll see how well that does. New or sequel games, reviving old IPs Legend of Dragoon?. Expanding the PSN and adding new and exciting features to the PS3s XMB.

There's lots for them to do, and I'm sure they got plenty of other top secret things there going to throw at the PS3.
