Forums - General - So my dad just called...

He asked me if I was alone. Which I was.

He asked me if I was sitting down, if I was comfortable (Yes dad, I'm on the can)

He then broke the big news... he was getting another child. His girlfried is pregnant now.

I cannot tell my friends yet because otherwise my whole town knows in no-time but I have to vent somewhere. I mean, I'm 23, my sister is 22. My father and mother broke 5 years ago and he has been with his girlfriend for 3 years now (He is 50, she is 39). When he or she will be born we will differ 24 years. It's just something I never expected to hear out of my father. And in retrospect makes the clothespin joke I made a few weeks back rather sour...

In any case I don't know if I should be happy with it or not. My father is obviously happy and that should count. But for some reason or another I just cannot stand his girlfriend and was already fearing for the future (I cursed her lazyness and in my mind she was sapping off of him, among other things) so now that she's pregnant... fuck.

I've decided to welcome the child when it's here but I really hope that it will not strain my dad too much taking care of it. Both financially and age-wise.

God I just recalled what kind of weird thigns the age-difference might entail.

If I get kids when i'm 30, they will have a 7 year old uncle or aunt! My kids could effectively play with their grandfathers kid!

Wow, that is a huge age difference, but not unheard of. If you dad is happy I say you should be happy to. You can hep take care of the kid.

damn man. It should be you having kids not your father...unlucky situation all round.

hey I understand your concerns, but if your dad and his gf are happy then thats what counts, at his age its probably his last chance to reasonably have children and they probably wanted to have one together. My mom and her boyfreind have a 20 year age difference and they have a 11 year old together, and first I was a little iffy on the situation but dont worry you'll learn to accept and eventually consider the baby as your little brother or sister.

Esmo,..you can stop this... you kno this rite?

Well, I know someone who is older than her aunt, so I wouldn't worry about that. Yes, it will be weird, but you'll get used to it.

And if your dad is happy, then I think you should be supportive. Which it seems you already are.

Most countries frown on murder

Well, you are doing the respectable thing. Not shunning the child or your father. It's a bit of a weird situation, but I'm sure it will all be fine in the end.
