Forums - Gaming - Do you people see the sale shifts?

Sony lineup next year are many mmo's and old school (hardcore) games while the wand looks like a weak alternative to the wii, while xbox has a decent line up a few mmo's and hardcore games but it also has natal which they keep trying to show they are serious about, this could mean competition for the wii so M$ might prove natal is the real deal and steal the wii spot light trying to take both the wiiand the ps3 down at the same time.

Or am i looking at this th wrong way?

@Tenkin
When did you make those predictions in your sig?
My guess is quite long ago since the Wii will be quite far off. In that case the Xb and PS3 one's will be quite close.

Sony had demonstrated again that the PS3 will outsell the 360 if it is within $100 of the lowest 360 offering. I agree that MS will once again cut the price of the 360 in 2010 to improve its market position, but unless they can cut $100, I doubt they will consistently pull ahead of Sony. The only thing that could possibly keep MS from third place is Natal, and I have my doubts about its relevance. The PS3's black friday performance has to scare MS.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

@DR.Grass
last week i'll change them down then btw wat do you think about the wii sales

Wait you only think Sony has Final Fantasy left to sell console? o.O

I can't believe I just read that MS should be scared because of the black friday sales. There were 75k more PS3 sold than Xbox360... Oh no Xbox360 is doomed! (Remember there is still a 9 million gap in the US)

I think it is impressive for a console in its fifth year to sell 325k consoles @ black friday. Besides that, they won on the software front. Assassins Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2 all on the X360 were the big winners.

But anyway, Sony has still GT5 to make its debut for this gen. This and God of War III are the last big IPs Sony has for this gen.

MS will release Natal and advertise the hell out of it. I say we might see a $200 or $250 Elite with Natal this time next year. (I still hope that Alan Wake will be a great success, but thats just me :D)

This gen is basically:

Wii Owns! But that's boring so we check MS vs Sony:

Xbox 360 rules America
Xbox 360 rules UK / scandinavia / Australia

PS3 rules Japan
PS3 rules continental Europe

Just by looking at these markets it is easy to say that the difference in sales won't be huge at all. They will end up more or less with the same amount of consoles. Maybe a 5 million difference (like 55 vs 60 million), but there is no publisher / developer that can afford to drop a 50 million userbase just for the fuck of it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

What matters really is whether Sony can be profitable. If they can't, then it doesn't matter whether they beat the Wii in sales and have hundreds of exclusives - they won't do a new Playstation.

Sega released the Dreamcast after the Saturn.  Sony would be expected to come up with at least one more Playstation home console before packing it in, profit or not profit.

To your first paragraph: Gran Turismo 5 says hello. Beyond that, nobody thought Uncharted 2 would shift systems and we see how they went.

@ darth: Yep, unfortunately people do still believe that nonsense.

How soon after the price cut was Uncharted 2 released?  Wasn't it within the first month?  How can you sort out price cut sales from the sales of Uncharted 2?  I am a fan of the Uncharted series, but I believe it is important to be able to differentiate between the two events.

I completely agree with this guy

@Dr. Grass: It's more important for them to beat Sony actually. Why else would they bleed cash just to release their console early and gain marketshare before the competitors arrived?

Because gaining market share means more profitability, but there isn't a 1-to-1 relationship between market share and profitability.

At THIS point, is it worth losing more money to shift more consoles, or is it better to sell less but make more cash?

PS I don't want this to turn into a flamewar please since I've had at least a dozen today and I'm about to go to bed ;)

It's true that they're in a healthy position in the US right now, but still, just thought it was worth mentioning.

@Soleron: Keep believing that.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
