I've never played a FF game before (nor any JRPG aside from the first Dark Cloud), but I will definitely be picking this game up!

Fixed. How you feel about a game does not mean the developer is ashamed of it. Bad sales would make the company ashamed, and that is clearly not the case. |
You mayhave loved XII, XI, and X, but those games weren't widely liked. XII may have sold well but a lot of people actually didn't like it (myself included). Even if FFXIII came to the 360 (not saying it will or even hinting it will) or if I had a PS3 I probably wouldn't bother with XIII. I know without a doubt I'm not alone in thinking this, the FF series has been seriously going downhill for a long time now. They are turning into lame movies and less so games that are actually trying to tell a story.

I'll ditto Twesterm's opinion. Once the initial hype blew over, X was less than well received by myself and friends. I know no one who liked X-2. Period. I know one person who liked XI, a strange person but one entitled to his opinion. And XII is much akin to X. Looked promising at first, but failed to impress in the long run.
The people I know aren't the mass public and as such don't represent it, but Twesterm's comments are fair.
If Squeenix could return to the glory days of Square Soft, I think everyone would be pleased. As of now however, things are looking quite depressing for an old favorite of mine.
Wasn't X like the fav. in Japan? Though, yes I must admit FFXII didn't sit so well w/ me and I think it pretty much had to do w/ the unsatisfying battle system (techniques, magic, and summons were too downgraded for my tastes). Otherwise, I really liked the graphics, huge worlds, excellent writing and voice acting, and I even liked the more realistic(compared to previous FFs) storyline. FFXIII looks like it will have a very exciting battle system so I am very psyched for it.
EDIT: And only two and four are new to me and they look like CGI. However, they did show some real-time before, no?

Not widely liked? Maybe FF 12, i did not sell very well, but FF 10 did quite well and i really liked it
Personally i didnt like FF 9, vivi was awsome though, but still 7 8 and 10 are my favorites
its all opinion
With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

I had to force myself to play through X X-2 and VIII I absolutely hated them felt they had lost the entier spirit of the series. VII was good but I saw it coming the shift from the old school to this new crap. IX was a total throw back and I adored it, if you didn't play some of the first FF games you would never understand IX, my favorite since VI. I couldn't even finish X-2 XII and VIII and I doubt I'll be picking up XIII. I was a hardcore fan but they just left me sick to my stomach looking that my favorite game for it's ground breaking stories and character development turn into a fancy light show with as many CG effects as they can cram into it and a star wars sound track.
