Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm convinced a Call of Duty Civil War edition could work.

It truly is the forgotten war. Even though we did win. Well, we accomplished our objective anyway.

People would just be pissed at the gun reload times unless they wanted to make it extremely inaccurate. And speaking of inaccurate, how would you make the aiming work. Muskets and the limited rifles people used were not very accurate. It would be a weird game. It would be a slow paced game. Also, nobody outside America would give a damn.

How about
Call of duty: Sea Shepherd

One of the reasons Call of Duty is so popular is because it has a wide variety of weaponry.

There was not much variety in guns during the Civil War. A World War I game could definitely work though.

No to the Civil War, mainly due to weapons. I really don't think it'd work for a relatively fast paced shooter.

No to WWI because if you think about what it actually was like, trench warfare isn't much of an FPS game. I think an RPG like game could work because to show the psychological and emotional impact of trench warfare. In an FPS you'd jump out your trench, you might get to the enemy lines, but most of the time you'd just get slaughtered. It was all about the defenders in WWI, and in a game I get the feeling it'd get very repetitive (what with pretty much every offensive ending in death).

No to 7 day war... too controversial. If done right it could be good but I can't think of any dev that could handle the content.

This leaves us with WWII, Vietnam and Modern War... which is pretty much what games cover, unfortunately. Korean war could be done effectively. Also, covering WWII from the view of soldiers from other nations like the Algerians who joined the French army but were treated as second-class citizens and cannon fodder (watch Days of Glory). Or perhaps from the viewpoint of a Gurkha soldier (From Nepal, they fight in the British army).

I think it could definately work if made properly, WWI was dominated by trench warfare , but that was only after the stalemate on the western front was reached there was also a war of manouvre, street fighting, sieges  etc etc enough to diversify the experience, Big Trench Battles could also be executed on a epic scale using todays technology and i think people like IW would also now how to present the horror of WW 1. But it probably wont happen

Call of Duty Civil War = fail due to weapon limitation.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

How about Call of Duty: Spanish-American Conflict.
You could be TR and lead troops up kettle hill!

I finally got around to playing Call of Juarez Bound In Blood.  The first chapter during the Civil War has me completely convinced that in the capable hands of the Call of Duty development teams, there could be a kick-ass game built around the era.

On a related thought, I think we're long past due for a well done Vietnam era game.  I think this untapped source material could be a good place for Medal of Honor to enter next although I know I read somewhere they're moving towards a more modern approach.  The story for a Vietnam based game could have the last level realizing that the main character has been hallucinating the whole time and was just having a PTSD flashback.  He has actually spent the entire game going on a modern day killing spree the whole time thinking he was back in 'Nam.

1. You would need sleight of hand perk on always! lol or else your reloads would take 30 seconds. Its a cool idea but the online might suffer from lack of guns in that era and reallllllly long reload time

2. The US lost in 'Nam so I doubt they'll be in a hurry to make that game. Oh and your M16 would jam like every 10 seconds! Maybe Korean war? Or a fictionalized version of 'Nam.

Edit: I kinda messed up my dates. Civil war was 1860's, I was thinking American Revolution which was 1770's I think. The guns would still be few and far between though.

Knowing IW, they'd just change the weapons so they're on par with modern ones. Every weapon after CoD1 was raped so that they arn't too hard for casuals to use.

The 50. cal sniper in MW2 can shoot almost as fast as an auto if you have quick fingers
