OSX is waaaay different from FreeBSD, it's based on it yes but there are little things left from free BSD. OSX is a mix of Mach and NeXT.
The open source version of the core of OSX is called Darwin OS, it's the closest you can get to OSX without paying for it. This is Mac OSX without the UI.
