@prophecy
Sales don't matter anymore, it's now whether or not the company makes a profit or not. LMAO!

@moreno

How can Wii be doomed when its has always been the market leader and selling more compared to 360+PS3 combined most of the time this gen?

What I notice this gen is that ppl will alway come up with new excuses why the x company is still doing bad for e.g

2006- PS3 has no games

then games started comming...

2007-PS3 is doomed due to low sales and blu ray is doomed

blu ray still selling....

2008-ps3 is doomed due to low sales

then PS3 sales has gotten a lot better....

2009-PS3 still not profitable = doomed

2010-PS3 not gaining enough profit???

See the two other consoles are both profitable, both sold more than the previous versions and are relatively in 1st and 2nd place in overall LTD sales. The PS3 is in 3rd place, unprofitable still and in comparison to the previous version is a big pile of suck. So still in every metric its not doing that well aside from a currently short term sales surge whilst by those same metric the other consoles are doing GREAT.

Tease.

lol 5.3 million units ahead......profitable???? no competition...... totally fair now. Compare fair 360 vs ps3 stats, the two companies are dead even.

amazing numbers......what would next week's stats bring should be interesting.

Great sales for all systems ... except PSP. Next week will be interesting.

Name one console that sold as good as the PS3 at its price, adjust for inflation if you want.

That's a good point, actually.

If we take into account all the circumstances with respect to the PS3 later release (in some places), the powerful competition and price "issues", we can't help but admit how good is the PS3 doing, in my humble opinion.

Name one console that's been as subsidized and lost as much money as PS3 has, adjust for inflation if you want.

hmmm... People prediciting the PS3 would "demolish" the 360 over December are goign to be disappoinnted.

Pretty much as expected otherwise.

Yeah, last year the 360 outsold PS3 by 160k. Now the PS3 outsold 360 by only 74k with its new slim model. But I guess those same people wont talk about that.

People also wont talk about how this week there was a 75k boost due to the walmart sale and COD LE Bundle. And im SURE people wont talk about the fact last year it was a $400 PS3 vs a $200 360 and this year its a $300 PS3 vs a $200 360 and it still swung 234k despite the price difference.

But what do i know.

Ok, you added some details, but you do know that you are leaving a lot out as well.  If we wanted to we could mention the PS3 bundles and the different exclusives released last year vs. this year for each respective system.  We could also mention that last year it was a $400/500 PS3 vs a $200/300/400 360 that had a fairly fresh price cut.  This year its a freshly cut $300/400 PS3 vs a $200/300 360.  Also who knows how the Wii price cut is affecting the sales of both HD systems.  And the Walmart deal was, if I'm not mistaken, only in place for one day of this sales period and it was pretty much sold out by then.

We could go on and on and on and on and still get nowhere.  But I think Squilliam hit the nail on the head when he stated that, despite all of these numbers, its all about who is profitable in the end and that is where Sony sits squarely in 3rd place and currently unprofitable.  That has to change.

No, PROFIT doesnt matter here...this isnt a company bottom line forum. Its a sales numbers forum. We dont all gather here for ioi's work of company bottom lines, sure we discuss those things when they come out in their respective threads, but this thread and this site is dedicated to cold hard sales numbers, thats whats discussed here.

Sure we can take into account "numbers" such as price in arguments about total consoles sold. But the only time company profit comes up here is when Sony outsells MSFT or Nintendo (for a very brief time haha) then it all switches to profit to downplay anything positive for the PS3. Ive been here long enough to know that.

Bottom line, Entry price matters. So you can post the tiered prices from last year and this year, the fat of the matter is if someone wanted a 360 they had to pay $200 to get into the game and $400 for last year. Thats a huge difference that likely contributed to the 360 dominating last year.

And to the bolded about walmart, the deal was week long but not all stores got multiple shipments but it was still a huge deal as evident by the numbers last week which accounted for the one day.

I know i typed a lot so not many people will read it, but the bottom line is the 360 sales for this week were inflated due to 2 HUGE factors, COD bundle (WW) and walmart (America) The release slates of this year vs last year are a moot point since they are only significant to people interested in those games, this far into generation most titles simply wont push hardware, its about entry price which is why the main factors are not software.
