And still Sony ditches us Europeans with always late game releases (GoW collection...enough said) even though they make more money from here. Sony should prefer customers who give them more money. =/

Japan has been in deflation for a long time as you might have heard. To combat this, the Japanese central bank has had its interest rate set very near (or at?) 0 for a long time. This was an attempt to weaken the currency and cause inflation.
Then the recession started in other places (the US first), and other central banks like the American one came and did the same as Japan was doing, which weakens the dollar against everything else... Japan has no effective way to fix it by themselves, as their interest rate is already as low as it can be. Unless they start paying people money to borrow.
Further... With the American central bank lending money for just about nothing, and with the dollar being a plentiful currency, lots of investors are borrowing in dollars to buy other currencies and take risks in the stock market... which also weakens the dollar and strengthens other currencies.

That has always grated me and I have never understood why the Europeans and I will include the UK in that put up with it and let them get away with it.

You are very correct kowenicki.
Sony is getting DESTROYED in the American LCD market. An amazing fall from grace.
Shockingly, upstart VIZIO is number 2 and Sony dropped from 2nd to 5th place in just 1 year.

The yen value increase will cripple sony badly.

Yeah, I got caught up reading the thread and it moved fast.
Interesting stuff.
It pisses me off that the US does nothing to recover the dollar. A weak dollar raises oil prices, which means more expensive gas prices. I think the US govt is making a hefty profit from oil lobbyists in keeping the dollar weak. A weak dollar does not help anyone out except for the fatcats.

I know, but Sony is still trying to stay competitive.
5th though... didn't know that, thought they were 3.
Vizio is 2nd. Part of that is that more people are buying replacement TVs and so have to buy HD tvs.
