Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: Consoles set for extinction

DD allows some  small developers to grow hopefully to become majors in the future. When it starts to happen we may see a price difference between DD vs retail versions. Who knows if the next consoles wars could be DD vs Box where the DD only console games are $20-$30 cheaper.

As far as Nintendo , one of the things that help PS to be a success was CD games were cheaper  than N-64 cartiages.

Someday maybe, but no time soon.  I think some of the "city-folk" who don't know shit about the masses of country folk (which makes up a huge part of the overall population) will be surprised at the % that can't get high speed internet.  Until we have universally accessible high speed internet for the millions w/o it, consoles and discs are here to stay.  Developers like to talk high-tech, but forget that such a move would alienate 1/3 of their customers that live in amishville or 50+ miles from a sizable city.

Facebook and iPhones are the future of gaming then?
What a load of bs!

Wow, I can't wait to download a 30 GB game on launch day with 3 million other people downloading it at the same time causing incredibly slow speeds.

With luck I might be able to play the game in under 2 weeks!

But damn! on the 13th day my power got interrupted and the download got corrupted and I have to start over =(

I heard something on the radio something about a cheaper wireless internet is just now starting in some of the bigger cities. So those who doesn't have a fast speed or one company has a monoploy of high speed internet will soon be a thing in the past.

Server-based games make a lot of sense for what Square does. You don't need low latency or responsive controls to watch cutscenes or select commands from a menu.

Social and browser "games"... *shudder*

The future looks dim.

Exactly what I was thinking lmao. Maybe I wont be playing games anymore by then

If that's what becomes of gaming - a plague of casual/oversimplfied games and digital downloads, and nothing else, I assure you that I won't be.

me too I would quit gaming when this happens. I think when this happens the console market will crash and teach developers and publishers not to get gready and so for sony and ms.

And studies show hardcore gamers are over-weight now. How big will they get now that they don't have to get off there ass to purchase a game

I lol'ed at that.

I can't imagine not having my beloved Legend of Zelda disc.
