I think you dont have to pay when you sell well.
Nintendo didnt pay Capcom to make Monster Hunter 3 exclusive the Wii. They just show their sales numbers in Japan compared to the PS3 and it is ok.

It was this comment: "of course, Microsoft can still buy a 18 month exckusivity if they want."

You basically implied that only that side does such a thing. You honestly think Sony didn't make deals with studios to support blu-ray? Disney actually co-developed the programming for HD-DVD, but then switched sides. You think there was no incentive to do that?

Of you think Sony might not be in talks with Warner about this apparent move?

Not all studios are being payoffed.  Fox is legitimitely supporting Blu-Ray because of their avid love of DRM.  BD+ was the deciding factor for them.   When AACS got cracked, they stopped putting out titles on Blu-Ray for months!

Actually, that's one of the things that negated the Paramount exclusivity effect.  Fox had been almost non-existent on the BD front for most of 2007, and didn't start releasing titles again until around the time Paramount went exlcusive, so in a way it was like both formats gained an exclusive studio, thus negating any affecting Paramount had on software sales, aside from Transformers.

Well, there are claims that BD+ has just been cracked:

This could have something to do with Warner's new found love of Blu-Ray:

Apparently, Steve Nickerson, the former Senior Vice President of Market Management at Warner, resigned his position back in August. He was an avid proponent of HD DVD, and was apparently behind Warner's move to support HD DVD exclusively before the war started (though they later went neutral).

The removal of a pro-HD DVD higher up from the Warner hierarchy could easily have swung things in the way of Blu-Ray. It's the only way to explain these pro-BD comments from a studio that was formerly VERY friendly to HD DVD.

What good is that player should Warner go BR exclusive? Still means that you can't get yet another studios big hits for that player. :)

If you can't get the majority of the movies you want, it could be $10 and not be worth it.

Warner said they are in a position to decide this format war. The only logical conclusion would be to choose Blu-Ray. Going HD DVD would make it 4 BR studios vs 3 HD DVD, and would only prolong the war further, not deciding anything. Going Blu exclusive would make it 5 vs 2, and would essentially put an end to the war, even if it wasn't an immediate end.

1/ and what ? the main BR player is the PS3 and I highly doubt they wil sell 5M HD DVD player between november and december. But, I think they will sell at least 1M PS3.

2/ All is about software , not player.
People buy more BR movie, BR is more interesting for studios.

3/ That is why you dont need to pay them to get exclusivity LordTheNightKnight.
Neverthless, I will never consider that Sony is innocent and never pay people to get exclusive contrat or things like these. But for the moment, in the HD world, they dont need to pay anyone since they sell to everybody ...

I did not claim all were. I just pointed out it's ridiculous to claim that none on the blu-ray side were.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
