Forums - Gaming - What part of videogames as hobby is rational?

I was searching over the web on Gamestop site to see if Assassin's Creed 2 was on sale.  And I saw this bit on the God of War collection:

I'm not going to lie. I was one of those die hard xbox people who would never own a playstation. But finally I was drawn to the dark side with the PS3 and blue ray. One game I lusted after for years was God of War. I had never played it and I was dieing to try it. When I got the PS3, I instantly looked for the game to find out it was on PS2. Low and behold, I was looking for the release date of GOW3 when I saw the collection had been released.

Maybe in the realm of videogames this makes sense.  However, take a step back and read the bold.  Why the heck would a rational person end up lusting for years after a game s/he never tried?  It looks like there is zero basis for interest here based on this.  Note, I know God of War is a great game/series (I played the original), but to go to this extent, that you have years over lust, and are never able to even get around to trying the game?

I post this also asking about other game series to that went beyond selling well, to craze level.  Doesn't seem rational either.

Around the Network

Go to your local Games Workshop and see the crazyness they get into. Its not just video games. All mediums of entertainment have their fanatics. Like for example I'm a film fanatic, I often go to the cinemas every week because I love it so much.

People that are passionate about their mediums of choice simply make it a big part of their life. And as far as I'm concerned theres nothing wrong with that in principle.

LOL some are passionate for books, why can't you be passionate about video game
