Forums - Sony - Analyst: PS3 has 'significant price advantage' this Christmas

Doug Creutz, an analyst with Cowen Group, has declared that Sony’s PlayStation 3 has earned itself a "significant price advantage" over Microsoft’s competing Xbox 360 platform this holiday season.

“With the frontline Xbox 360 console (the Elite) also retailing for $299, we believe Sony now has, for the first time, a significant price advantage at retail, particularly in the minds of serious gamers who are more likely to be considering the PS3 vs. the Xbox 360 Elite rather than the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade version," he stated.

Furthermore, Creutz revealed that a survey result had 21 percent of those who do not currently own a PS3 were planning on investing in Sony’s black box this Christmas, compared to 12 percent who were intending to fork out for an Xbox 360 during the same period.

Lastly, the survey also revealed that 32 percent of consumers who currently own a PS2 plan on upgrading to PS3 in the near future.

how is it an advantage when its equal in price at $100 more expensive than the lower priced model?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Ehm I hope so...

21 percent of people who don't own a PS3 are planning on buying one? But...but...but that would be 1.2 billion people!

Probably because the arcade model doesn't come with a harddrive.

That part may be true but for the average family buying a console for a christmas present then the arcade version still has a significant price advantage.

lmao

ps3 was always a better deal, it was just people didn't want to pay for the extra options when it could run 100-200 dollars more. of course now that the main sku is the same price, this is a different issue.

Because the PS3 includes a bluray player, wifi, adapter and free online gaming.

To get all that with an elite you need to: buy a standalone bluray player for $100-150+, Wifi adapter $100, and a year of XBL gold $50. That around 200 extra bucks.

Starting to make sense to you?
