WOw at sales...

After PSPGo bombing, DSLL bombs as well...

Not to mention ridiculous sales of FFCB on Wii. Same goes for M&S and many games on all plateforms...

Yeah, DSLL along with Monster Hunter 3 is probably the biggest bomb of this year.

3. Who loves Final Fantasy in Japan and doesn't already own a PS3? The game has been announced for 3+ years.

Is that is why PS3 sales jumped this year in April from 15k to 60k( 60,361 (+289%) ) during FFXIII demo bundle release?

Also, there are some people, who waited 29,980 yen PS3 price before getting FFXIII. Not to mention, that PS2 sales also increased during FFX release(which came on 2nd year of PS2 life).

I'm just using the logic of "Who loves Mario in Japan and doesn't already own a Wii?"

The difference between Wii and PS3 in Japan is 9M vs 4M in 3 years. PS3 is getting it`s first huge(1M+) game in Japan, while Wii already had around 5 huge games in Japan. We shall see, hiow big will be impact from NSMB.

Wii's had 6 million+ JP sellers so far (Wii Sports, Play, Fit, Fit+, Sports Resort, Mario Kart), and 2 more that almost hit a million (Mario Galaxy, MH3).  NSMBWii will be the seventh, then they also have at least one more sure million seller (DQX) in the pipeline.

PS3's getting it's first and (possibly) last million seller in FFXIII.  GT5 may manage it too, but that's far from a sure thing.

Hmmm Wii has more than 6 million sellers in Japan.

Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, Wii Fit+, Wii Play, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Party 8, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl. That's already 10 million sellers.

MH3 and NSMBWii to be added before 2010, so 12 at the beginning of 2010.

Yikes, I totally missed Mario Party 8, Smash Bros and Animal Crossing. I think I  was thinking 2m+ or something. :/

I was going off Famitsu though, which has Galaxy just under a million (~970k), but really it's probably close enough to qualify (it's certainly going to be over 1m shipped).  MH3's at ~950k and still moving a consistent 5k each week, so it'll get there for sure.  And I hadn't realized but Wii Fit+ isn't there yet, but it will be in the next 2-3 weeks.

Versus 13 is also a possiblity.

A slim possibility.  If we're going that far down, I'd add Galaxy 2, Kirby and Zelda M+ to the Wii list.

If we went in order of known/likely million selling Japanese releases then...

  1. Wii Sports (2006) Nintendo
  2. Wii Play (2006) Nintendo
  3. Mario Party 8 (2007) Nintendo
  4. Super Mario Galaxy (2007) Nintendo
  5. Wii Fit (2007) Nintendo
  6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008) Nintendo
  7. Mario Kart Wii (2008) Nintendo
  8. Animal Crossing: City Folk (2008) Nintendo
  9. Wii Sports Resort (2009) Nintendo
  10. Monster Hunter TRI (2009) Capcom
  11. Wii Fit Plus (2009) Nintendo
  12. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009) Nintendo
  13. Super Mario Galaxy 2* (2010) Nintendo
  14. The Legend of Zelda* (2010) Nintendo
  15. Kirby Adventure* (tba) Nintendo
  16. Dragon Quest X (tba) Square Enix

  1. Final Fantasy XIII (2009) Square Enix
  2. Gran Turismo 5: The Real Driving Simulator* (2010) Sony Computer Entertainment
  3. Final Fantasy versus XIII* (tba) Square Enix

*maybe

@jarrod: Looks like Nintendo themselves (not counting 3rd parties) release 3 million+ selling games a year.

What would be the big 3 games for next year? I think Galaxy 2 (Maybe, maybe not), Wii Vitality and ??

Mario Party 9 (If announced), Zelda Wii (If released in 2010) are candidates. Any others?

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

For Nintendo, I think it'll be Galaxy 2, Zelda M+ and whatever comes with the Vitality Sensor.  For 3rd party games I think we'll see Monster Hunter 3G (which will outsell the first) and maybe a Dragon Quest VII remake.

I'm not sure how anyone can try to spin DSi LL into a "bomb" and expect to be taken seriously.

And Kirby Wii would definitely sell a million in Japan.
