i <3 the droid so much. its a beautiful phone. sadly i cant upgrade till July, so i might as well wait for the Droid 2.

don't get me wrong. i love the ds more than the psp, i haven't even touched the psp for ages, but i still respect the psp because it IS sucessful.

(although it would have been good for sony if psp killed the ds, but the better handheld won anyway, which was the ds. IMO. =P)

Im not brushing off PSP and saying its not a successful machine. I have it... its a wonderful media center in your pocket. Its just not a great mass market portable gaming device.

Portable gaming is not the same as console gaming. You dont need excellent graphics, games with story, 30 buttons on the controller... It needs to be simple, easy to get in to, console with great battery life and games that can are fun within the first minute or 2 of playing them. Some PSP games don't even load the first level in 1 minute...

PSPgo is the first glimpse of sony actually understanding what they need to do for portable gaming. Losing the slow UMD drive, adding memory and making it small amd portable... Now all they need is some simpler games like Peggle for 9.99. Last thing anyone wants to do while playing a portable game on the subway is get stuck watching a 20 minute cutscene from a MGS game.

It doesn't matter to me either way. I would like to have a PSP-3000 or Apple Iphone/Touch but I can't afford one or the other at the moment. I do have DSi so that will have to do for now. The games for the PSP and Iphone/Touch do look great!

I think iPhone even has a bigger issue with piracy then PSP due to how easy it is to jailbreak your iPhone.

uh, it's not exactly news that iPhone 3Gs is more powerful and is able to produce better graphics than the PSP by now, the thing can also do custom shader as well, the problem is the controller part. if somebody can make something like a dualshock 3 controller work with it via Bluetooth, it'd be heaven on top of the multi-touch screen.

I guess your infitite wisdom tells you that, no less.

If you look at the last portable cycle, it was nintendo 98% and everybody else 2%.

Since the psp entered the scene, nintendo have retreated to around 70%... That's pretty good for the first go around.

Considering how much the psp has sold, and what it has accomplished (making nintendo scramble for their lives in the beggining) you would be a fanboy to say it wasn't some sort of success.

 

Nothing is out of the question. Will nintendo ever leave?... No. Could sony overtake nintendo at their own game?... maybe.

 

I don't have a fucking crystal ball like you obviously do though.

^DS still sold much more than GBA, heck it'll be the highest selling system ever.

The key reason Sony won't win is the way it looks at gaming, they were willing to kill their market-share to Trojan horse Blu-ray, which shows gaming is only a means to an end for Sony, they don't really care about gaming, outside of using it as a platform for other tech, Nintendo on the other hand views gaming as a means in and of itself, this is key, its why Nintendo can disrupt and Sony cannot
