Forums - Gaming - why do so many people enjoy the call of duty series

in light of modern warfare 2 coming out, the games have sold pretty crazy numbers across the world.  i know there are plenty of people who don't like call of duty, but for the millions of people who do like it, i can't seem to understand what it is about the series that keeps people hooked.  i never played the first two and i thought the third sucked.  when 4 came out, i remember all my friends and dormmates playing the game like crazy but i could never find anything really great about it.  world at war felt like the same kind of thing and i have yet to play mw2.  i don't hate the cod series. i'll play it if someone wants to, i just think that it's a little overrated is all and i have a few reasons for thinking so.  please keep in mind that these are strictly opinon and i do not mean to push anyone's button's.  i don't like the fact that it is so easy to get killed in the game.  i know they say it adds to the realism, and makes the game based more on skill, but i feel like it makes it much less fun this way.  i am a big gears of war fan, and i like the fact that the game offers a lot of manuverablity compared to some games.  because of this, i find cod to be too rigid in how the player moves.  if i get hit once, i am practicaly dead with no way to recover or try to get away from the fire.  in most shooters that i play, i almost never aim because i prefer to blindfire.  i know a lot of people feel aiming it a mandatory part of the gameplay of a shooter, but i can get away with not aiming in some games.  aiming to me make it too difficult to move around, but cod requires a lot of precision to hit your enemies at least in my experience.  the last thing is that i prefer to use shotgun in every shooter i play and i've had very little success using that kind of gun in the cod series.  i can still get my fair share of kills, buti feel like it gives me a serious disadvantage.  anyway, these are just my personal reasons, and this doesn't make the games bad to me, just not as great as they're made out to be.  if you like cod, hate it, never played, don't care at all, heck even if you're just bored and want to send an insult my way, just state your reason

Why do people like anything? If I knew that, I'd be rich.

Also, insert some paragraphs into that op. Then, I'll actually read it.

the third one did suck but the rest are exelent

It's noob-friendly.

Because it's fun. Not the best shooter series IMO. But still very fun.

Its easy for people to get in to it. Game has auto aim that makes it almost like a rail shooter. You are never lost since the whole game is scripted and holds your hand. Lots of noise and shit goes on around you that is pleasing to the eye and ear. Visually impressive...etc.

Anyone that has played FPS games on the PC in the late 90s and early 2000's is probably scratching their heads at the popularity of COD series at the moment.

This pretty much sums it up.

I'm not meaning to insult you but it sounds like you don't like aiming in shooters or aren't very good at it, which is basically the most important element in a shooter. Also I'm not sure who you play GoW with but I can assure you at high levels of play GoW takes great skill in aiming, although admittedly less than games like Halo.

The reason people love Modern Warfare is because is it gives them a shooter with crazy action, a considerable skill gap allowing competitive play and it does this all in familiar settings with guns that actually exist so people can relate to the gameplay. I'm not a huge fan of the series but I understand why people love it.

The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

Because the ones that I play are fun?

Because people like to shoot other people. It makes them feel strong!
