Forums - Gaming - Famitsu review scores New Super Mario bros Wii receives a perfect score!

Four perfect scores per year is just to much (five when FFXIII launches offcourse). Ten is supposed never to be reached. Famtisu is undermining it's own reviews.

If 10 is never meant to be reached then it is not really a part of the scale. 10 is supposed to be rarely reached, and represent the pinnacle of gaming at the time. It does not mean perfect. It means best.

Games have better quality these days then in the past...

Japanese taste is different...

Most awesome games deserve a 10/10 more than a 9/10, and a 40/40 is nothing more than a 10/10 times 4.

Famitsu fell in my concept. Not that NSMBWii not deserve this score, but Famitsu gives perfect score to any game released today.

Hey, maybe it's because there were more great games released in the pass 2 years?

Ups!

With Brawl and Nintendogs, it's the third Nintendo published game they've given a perfect score.

Also, I'm surprised by Pokepark. I hope it's as good as this score makes it seem.

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
  2. Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
  3. Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation)
  4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube)
  5. Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
  6. Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
  7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
  8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, Konami, for PlayStation 3)
  9. 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de (2008, Sega, for Wii)
  10. Dragon Quest IX (2009, Square Enix, for Nintendo DS)
  11. Monster Hunter Tri (2009, Capcom, for Wii)
  12. Bayonetta (2009, Sega, for Xbox 360)
  13. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009, Nintendo, for Wii)

These are the thirteen games that have scored a perfect 10 on Famitsu.

BR!

As I said before, perhaps it's not Famitsu's fault, there are a lot of excellent games this year.

What the hell is wrong with most of you people? Why is everyone always saying they were 'paid for the score' and 'they were saving their 40/40 for FFXIII, now they'll give it 39". Just STOP. It doesn't work like that at all. Magazine reviewers, whatever the insolent and ignorant internerds may think, have honour and integrity in their reviews. I've worked on a published, well-respected games magazine and I've seen it first hand.

Games reviewers judge games on a case-by-case basis, without bias, without caring what other games they've given top marks to. If there were more 40/40 games recently, it's because there are more top-class games. The trend of more 40s more recently is what you'd expect in a growing medium - games improve as dev talent becomes more widespread, budgets get bigger and consoles more able and the games themselves are steadily improved. For instance, now an FPS has to be at least as good as MW2 to get a high score, for an action game, UC2. That show gaming's improvement, not reviewer moneyhatting. Geez.

I´m surprised that nobody has mentioned that this is the FIRST mariogame that has scored a full 40 from Famitsu. I know that they have inflated their scores in recent years but still...
Not even SM64,SMG or NSMB (which was insanely popular in Japan) got a perfect score so this must be good for NSMBW´s buzz and the sales should benefit from this (it would be huge anyway but it certainly won´t hurt).
