There is a big push for 3d tv's in the home going on at the moment, I have a 3d capable monitor, by everyone but hollywood who are making 3d films but don't seem to want the extra revenue from DVD Blu-Ray sales. Sky is launching a 3d channel.

MS have said they want 3d on the 360 so I imagine especially if it's a success the next one would have 3d as part of it's specs.

 

Avatar will be 3d and not the anaglyph

Actually this 3D gaming on consoles stuff raises an important question... Since you need to take a performance hit for 3D gaming (about twice the GPU usage, and a little more CPU usage), developers who choose to make 3D games will either have to downgrade the graphics when 3D is enabled (and therefore have two levels of graphical detail), or downgrade them the whole time, which means the GPU will not be fully tapped for most people.

This plus the fact that MS/Sony are not very likely to make expensive consoles in the next gen, could well mean that their consoles won't have much better graphics than the PS3 and 360.

I want to respond to this but anything I can think of saying just sounds borderline trollish towards Sony and MS
