Forums - Website Topics - Forum Rules are Ridiculously Out of Date

Mods can and do edit posts where necessary (i.e to remove pornographic content). It is not general policy to edit a post where a user has been rude to another or whatever - the fact you can see the user banned should show that the post was unaccepable.

Fair enough. Thanks for giving the official word to me on that one. I do appreciate that much.

Thank you Naznatips for working on this so fast as well. It is nice to have reminders of why this is one of the few internet message boards I frequent.

I don't know if it it worth mentioning but when news for a multiplatform game that affects all versions is posted in a specific consoles forum (example if someone posted MW2 news in Microsoft section) the threads always degenerate from the actual topic to

"This is in the wrong section"
"Does it matter"
"Yes it does"
"Well, it is posted here now"
"So, it is wrong"

...and so on.

Is it worth making a rule to post in the correct section to avoid this? ...and such topics locked if posted in wrong area (to encourage posting in correct area).

Does this not bother anyone when it happens?  Pretty sure some people use it as a form to stealth troll too.

I do lock threads if they are in the wrong section, however I don't hang out in those sections often. If it is multiplatform news it should be in gaming. I wish I had the powers to move threads because I wouldn't mind just moving them to clean up the forums.

We do aim to listen to users and do all we can to both run and govern this site but also listen to feedback and try to make it the best experience for you guys that we can. Thanks for pointing something out that was in need of updating (it is far from the only thing on VGChartz in that situation!)

Thank you for listening to your site users and rectifying situations that may arise. I know how busy you must be running the site, so the fact that you take time to personally respond to things like this is most impressive.

To the best of my knowledge mods do not have the ability to move threads. As such it would require the entire conversation be shut down, and hope it picks back up. If mods can move threads then it makes sense, and repeat offenders should be dealt with. Using it to stealth troll is covered under the current rules though.

I don't know if this is possible but I think keeping a members ban history open to the public on their profile would be a good idea. That way any user could see what kinds of posts certain people get banned for and in that way it would help identify the repeat trolls quickly so the community can ignore them.

I just can't believe saying HD Twin's is a derogatory term and I was warned for that, even though they are both HD both sport Online networks, both use the same exact controller, both focus on 'hardcore' gaming, both compete for the top end machine boxes, both try to be multimedia centers.

The difference being that one uses Blu-Ray.

It is what it is though.

Heck they both got Net Flix recently. Both have DVD play back.

HD Twins is a derogatory term?

I uh

I'd like a rule clarification on that one, because I use that phrase too (though I mean it affectionately! I love my 360)

I don't think it's derogatory, I used it in the news I posted in the site and never got any backslash, http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5901

Are you really sure it was due to that?

you have never been formally warned for it, and that is news to me that it is derogatory

I don't know if the old Substance part is still applicable. Given, I don't know moderation history, thus I can't follow whether some users got a warning, but I don't think I've seen any moderations for

-"Similarly, do not reply to other posters with "you're wrong." Explain why you disagree, and perhaps point to the correct answer."

and

-"No "In Before The Lock" (IBTL) posts. Repeat offenders will be warned, and disciplinary action will be taken if those warnings are not heeded."

Dunno if I'm horribly wrong (something that's possible), but it's just a suggestion

Other than that, the new set of rules looks great and much more akin to the moderating rules mods use

I've always reported these, and have been assured that moderations were done as a result of reporting them.

There is nothing more annoying than taking time to write out a post than to have someone "LOL Couldn't be more wrong".

Those posts get me frustrated and make me want to flame them, so instead, I just report them, while at the same time offering them the chance to explain themselves. If they want to seriously take part in the discussion and they have something to contribute, they will. But they broke the rules. Rules that I myself have come to tread very carefully around.

Moderations are guardrails IMO.
