Forums - Sales - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 tops UK chart (week 42 ending 27th October)

@NJ5: What's surprising about Xbox version outselling PS3 in England?
Don't you know that Xbox 360 has there and half time larger userbase in UK (1489k to 423k)? And still PS3 version is very close to Xbox one.
Of course PS3 has PES bundle and possibly more PES fans prefer PlayStation. But it's still not easy to overtake Xbox userbase advantage.

kamil:

I just thought that the platform would have more influence with this game. If the PS3 version was actually decent, maybe it would have been the case. Obviously it wasn't.

Wow, the Xbox 360 version of PES actually sold more than the PS3 version? I thought that the football lovers were mostly staying with the Playstation brand, but it seems that many of them migrated to the 360 from the PS2.

And regarding PC sales, it's not going to be like that in many European countries... PES sells quite well on PC in Portugal and in Germany for example.

Well, some places have reported the PS3 version has some pretty crappy slowdowns... and by some places, I think the desginer himself said so.  That and the UK seems to be a Hybrid American/Europe market.

They hold more Europeon prefrences, yet console buying wise they seem to lean more towards the American market.  I'd assume this is because they got a lot more earlier videogames from Nintendo and the like as opposed to other parts of europe that didn't get to many serious offerings until the Playstation era.

As usual you dont know what you speak about .The Sega Megadrive and the Super Nes were probably as big in Europe as in North America .ANd before that the NES wasnt very popular (nintendo didnt distribute it here officially but throught concessions to other firms ,as for example Spaco in my country ) but the Sega Master System had its fair share of success in the late eighties .Before that the consoles didnt have any ground simply because the gaming was done in the computers ,both 8 bits (Spectrum ,C64 ,Amstrad CPC ,MSX ) and 16 bits (Amiga and Atari ST ) most of whom dwarfed the consoles in numbers of games released ,quality ,graphics (teh 16 bits ones for sure ) and affordability of the games .Just to make an example the games now are 65euros but back in the Megadrive-Snes days they were already  60 euros (we are talking the late eighties early nineties ).Some 4Mb Megadrive games and the Sega Master System and NEs games were about 42-45 euros back then (I am converting the prices as the euro didnt exist back then ) .Games on the 16 bits computers were about 12-15 euros and far more advanced that the Nes offerings so no wonder the Nes didnt have success here ,it was worse and more expensive and not even officially distributed by Nintendo .

You're right, I've heard about those issues. Online mode is practically unplayable and even offline play has slowdowns and bugs on the PS3. In the Portuguese forums I frequent I saw people who are pretty pissed off and some who even return their game (and rightly so, I don't even know how Konami would release a game with such bad problems). But even knowing that, it's still a bit surprising to see the 360 version actually outselling the PS3 version for this particular game.

Actually the game has some problems in both plattforms .For what I have seen the slowdowns on the PS3 version are mostly in cutscenes and cinematics when there is a foul etc .It doesnt harm the gameplay but it is noticeable .There are also a lot of reports of problemas with the online gaming ,and this in both consoles the 360 and the PS3 .Konami has already announced it would fix both the graphical glitches and online problems with a donwloadable patch in the next days .Funny thing is that this already happened with the 360 version last year .IT seems as if Konami has rushed the release of the game .

if PES doesn't sell PS3's in the UK then nothing will but I suppose they do still have the PES bundle and I expect that to be quite popular at christmas.

Doesn't matter about the slowdown or anything, the majority of UK will always choose Playstation for PES (myself included as I still play it on my ps2 and we have a ps2 league organised by my work with 40 people in it) because of the controller.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

ON the 360 is this second PES Game and FIFA the fourth. No everyone need a new Fifa Game all 6 Months    On PS3 the first Time PES and Fifa the second? Time on the Sony Console.

And remember it is UK. Stronghold of X360 in europe. I expect PS3 PES outsell X360 version in other countries.

@Killer: That's true. Fifa (Xbox360) sold better than Fifa (PS3) in UK but in most other European countries PS3 version was higher in ranks.

For comparision:
PS2 version accounted for 44% of Fifa 08 first week sales.
Xbox 360 version accounted for 26% of Fifa 08 first week sales.
PS3 version accounted for 20% of Fifa 08 first week sales.

==> so finally, considering the Xbox360 bigger userbase in UK
(stronghold of Xbox360 in europe, Killerman),
26% compared to 20% is very low for the Xbox360 even more considering the slowdown that affect a little bit more the PS3 version.

and considering the HUGE PS2 userbase, you guess who win the match ...
