its the sentiment of the article i am referring to.... its undeniable that the iphone will become a gaming platform of some size.

it's a phone. in the end, something that have to be upgrade any year.

it works for casual games, because they are small , developed it's small.

also apple doesn't have studios to back up. it may steal casual thunder but sony and nintedo got their core market.

nokia failed to do so with 40% of worldwide marketshare, n-gage brand it's death and it games are interconnecting with ovi store now.

also they have way bigger WAY bigger marketshare than apple more than 4 times.

Not really a concern to Nintendo, sure it may eat at some of the edges, but really, Nintendo's biggest draw is software, Apple can emulate buy they can't really get ahead of Nintendo in that regard, at best the Iphone will be one of those quick and dirty games machines when you don't have your DS around

Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

@kantor

that slightly misses the point...

if you have a phone that has some decent games and you are a casual gamer... why look elsewhere? brain training, nintendogs... easy on the iphone.

sony and nintendo will not be anywhere near as flippant about the iphone as you are.

I think you're hoping the Iphone overtakes the DS, so much that you're forgetting that just being able to emulate Nintendo's games doesn't work, if it did, there'd be other companies selling 20 million units of their games.

The point is, while the Iphone may get people to play, its not going to be their primary gaming device, it doesn't have the software, at best its the platform people will use when they don't have their DS around, and want to do a little gaming.

However when it comes down to it, they'll still have a DS, because at the end of the day, Nintendo just has the games that draw in people by the millions

Not to mention how many parents are going to give their kids Iphones and Itouches? Seems to me not too many, first off most parents don't want to risk their kids buying things off the apple store, not to mention the cost of the phone or ipod, and how many parents want their kids to be able to sure the net with that much ease?

What we have here is a repeat of back in 2005 when people were expecting the PSP to overthrow Nintendo in handhelds, and we know how its going to turn out

I get my apps for free, a little thing called jailbreaking. Everyone I know with an iTouch or iPhone has theirs jailbroken too.

I doubt most average consumers do that, or are even aware of it

I always find these "Iphones getting compared the NSD/PSP" articles ridiculous, sure the iphone has some intersting games but what sets the Iphone apart from the NDS/PSP is that the Iphone is #1: phone, #2: music player, #3: web inter-face device, 4:gaming.(IMO) the NDS/PSP were made for gaming first and fore most.

when I see my friends with their iphones they usually have minigames, nothing that one would actually sit down and play for hours. I don't see any game for the Iphone that would actually make me jump from out of my chair and run down to the apple store and purchase one.

You obviously missed the point that a casual with iPhone won't need DS ever.

iPhone games are mostly crap, real deal of low-tier, and that's exactly why this is hurting Nintendo.

Both Nintendo and Sony are way overshooting portable gaming needs.

For portable gaming the iphone is covering all the casual needs and some more
If you are hardcore gamer/user you can even jailbreak and play emulated sony/nintendo games
both my psp and ds are collecting dust at the moment.. in my vacations i always carried my ds but now seriously there is no reason to do it.. even if it's only a game like bejeweled is enough for me to play on the aeroplane and listen to my music library at the same time.. all needs covered

btw the new Ghost N Goblins for the iphone is a blast i enjoyed it more than the psp version

Sorry, but the fact is, that even the casual will end up getting the DS, purely because of the games on the DS that the iPhone won't have, like Brain age and Nintendogs. Also the fact is that kids will continue to get a DS for the games as well.

Sure some people might decide that they don't need a DS, but these will be a very small portion of the population, its why the DS and DS software still sells so strongly even though the system has been out since 2005, most people still see a need for the DS, even if they have an iPhone or Ipod, because Apple can't deliver what Nintendo can.

that guy is full of crap.
That's what I think.
He completely tries to undermind the competition with spewing of lies and miscommunication.
He makes it sound like the psp isn't good for playing music, well it's every bit as good. He makes it sound like iphone games are superior, when they're in most cases far far inferior.
