Forums - Gaming - john4lakers and LP---ROUND 5 of XBOX360 vs PLAYSTATION 3-----GPU MATCH UP!!

@ kowenicki

No, I meant the PS3 was in advance of the methods of its time when the platform launched.

Like including the PS3 Cell processor, which is made up out of 8 processors, implemented in a very special manner. For example most laptops today are still shipping with much lower clocked dual-core processors.

And for example Blu-Ray, only now many PCs and laptops are starting shipping with Blu-Ray technology included.

@ kowenicki

Blu-Ray still isn't common enough on the PC and the Cell can still measure up very well compared to quad-core CPUs in terms of raw processing power.

For example the US military is adding more PS3s to their arsenal:

"Before it won the research award in 2008, the information directorate's advanced computing architectures team considered alternative configurations and the possibility of a hybrid system, but found multicore Xeon servers slower and more expensive than PS3s, and GPGPUs to be slower in some important types of calculations."

Of course the best selling PC games are the less demanding PC games, you can reach many more people by not targeting a top level gaming PC.

I also noticed the XBox 360 won the first round with regard to comparing the two controllers.

I find that pretty amazing, my girlfriend had major issues with the XBox 360 controller and not at all with the PS3 controller. Although I with my big hands can manage both controllers, I prefer the PS3 controller a lot (despite never owning a PS2, which was similar).

I find it funny so many people lacking a background in ergonomics (unlike me) somehow believe Microsoft got this right. But of course, the controller of the original XBox was more sucky.

Funny, because the PS2 controller was so repulsive to me that I didn't get into gaming until I finally bought an Xbox...even the original Xbox controllers (excluding the duke) are better than PS3 controllers. I find it funny that you would bring up ergonomics because it's very clear you are clueless on the subject.

You strike me as an engineer Mike B. do you know why? I work with them on a daily basis...and they seem to think they know it all...yet, so often they are wrong. You know why? Because they are detached from reality. It's the nature of the job, they work with drawings not the actually product. I suspect this is much the case with you.

Not anymore, but I do treat a lot of patients, work with companies developing games for therapy and training purposes and work together with ergotherapists.

The XBox controllers are less suitable for the mass of people. There are exceptions and for this there are also 3rd party controllers to take into account.

Ah, bingo. Well at any rate, you are sadly mistaken that the Xbox 360 controllers are less suitable for the masses. Would you care to explain why you feel this way?

I once started an in depth thread about this. For a full analysis look it up.

With proper usage, the XBox 360 controller is more likely to cause muscle cramps for more people due to its form factor. Also the MLPP/ROM of the left thumb, the stick is in a much better position on the PS3 controller. Some people seem to confuse ergonomics design with futuristic appearance.

It's funny as the reviewer stated he got numb fingers from the 360 controller...

In addition the bulk seem to agree the 360's d-pad sucks. Only real point may be the triggers, on the 360 feeling more like a gun trigger. But that's not really much of an issue on the PS3.
