Forums - Sales - Level 5 : JRPG's LOOSING Momentum in Japan, FF13 can HELP JRPG's in west!

I can understand some of that sentiment, but I've liked some of their post-SNES games. FF7, FF10, IU, Dissidia.

I don't usually play games for some sort of higher intellectual pursuit. For RPGS specifically, it's all about a good story (that I don't see coming after 2 hours of gameplay( *cough* FF9 minus the last boss that made no sense)) and good characters with good interchange.

That's why I absolutely LOVE Dragon Age Origins right now. The exchange between your party members is awesome, no other game I've played compares.

Edit: If I desire some kinda of higher intellectual pursuit, I read the latest science articles. I used to try to read Physics textbooks (in ebook format of course) but that got boring FAST.

So you compare the words higher intellectual only with science?

Um, no, did I say that? Why would you think I'd relate 'higher intellectual' with ONLY science?

Can someone please tell me what game ROF stands for.

Talking about JRPG loosing momentum, I don't really think that is the issue. Right now franchise games are dominating sales all over the world. It really is not easy for a "title" to come out for the first time and having a lot people will be willing to buy it. I have seen the trailer of White Knight Chronicles and the game looks amazing. I even remember reading comment from people saying after watching the trailer that this was the end of the FF era. TOV, very nice trailer and gameplay but it is not selling as much as some of you expected. Right now FF console games are coming out every 3 years. Even The Dragon Quest/Warrior series which is killing Japan has not even one game selling one million in America or in Others(data from VGC). The real question is are people willing to buy a console JRPG that isn't a FF game.

The question is...

WHY do JRPG's need momentum again. What has caused them to LOSE momentum.

Why haven't they been selling as well as previous gens?

IMHO

1. The low sales of the PS3 (PS console touted as the JRPG console)

2. FFXIII took forever to be release

3. Handhelds took the majority of SE JRPG and the niche one.

I have a feeling if those 360-exclusive JRPGs weren't 360 exclusives we wouldn't be having this conversation

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

To some degree, yes, I agree with your underlying point, but I think the problem would still be here.

Most of 360's JRPGs aren't exclusive at this point.  And the 3rd party ones that still are (Operation Darkness, Magna Carta II, etc) probably wouldn't matter anyway.

Well how many times can some whiny emo kids save the world, shit got old.

I cant stand most jrpgs, at least FF13 characters look like adults. FFX was good but FF12 was crap.

Can't say I disagree, that's what I hated about FF8.
