Forums - Sony - Hirai – Current PSN service to remain free, subs for "premium content and s

As long as gaming remains free i couldn't care less. I am not gonna pay for online on 2 platforms, so sorry Sony but if i had to drop one it would be you.

Everyone assuming they're 'getting ready' to charge for PSN or w/e are delusional. SONY isn't retarded..they're going to add more content to PSN and charge you separately for each piece, or offer you to take a monthly subscription to get it all for one price, which will be much cheaper.

They're going to try to make it so people WANT to pay a subscription fee, not so that they HAVE to.

The gameplay and store aspects will not be touched. Quote me on that!

PSN being a free service is one of Sony's key benefits. They wouldnt change that.

for the moment.
This sounds like they are gearing folks up to eventually have to pay like live.

No it doesn't.

Doesn't Microsoft actually host all Live's servers for all publishers (except EA)?

Why should Sony charge for something they're not doing? It's the publishers that maintain their own server.

i mean you pay 50$ for gold because MS hold servers for all multiplayer/coop games from all the publishers so you will be able to still play Modern Warfare 2 even when Xbox 4 will be released.
on ps3 publishers have to hold servers for their own games. so considering the fact that they also pay sony for transfer from psstore and sony receives fees from every item sold on psstore, this is weird.

I didnt think there were any dedicated servers, even from Microsoft, for the 360 and that everything was P2P.

Exactly. M$ are price gouging people nothing more nothing less.

Well to be fair, it only comes out to about $4 a month for live, $3 if you can get a deal like I did, both of which is a fraction of what my internet monthy payment is.   Plus the amount of content you get is quite impressive

What impressive amount of content is that?  Not being sarcastic...I used to be a gold member but quit when I got a PS3.  I don't remember there really being any extra content (for free) but maybe things have changed...

There are no servers for any games in XBOXlive. XBOX live is just a big P2P network. you are paying to play things you already paid for, and getting, in most cases, no service. You pay for demos. exclusive DLC(which needs to be paid for again) and the right to use the service.

You also pay for the servers that host all of the downloadable material, but, then again, most of that costs money anyway.

Never ever try to justify the cost of xbox live using things they provide you with. XBOX live is only worth paying for because of the exclusive DLC and the fact that your friends use it. It is, in no other way better or superioer to PSN.

So pay for better ver. I dont mind if i still can play online.

I thought it was the companies that were being charged to keep PSN free. You know, everyone that has something in the store, like capcom, konami, rockstar, ea, ABC, Viacom, time warner, showtime, etc..

I wouldn't pay for online gaming, though... And, I spend enough in the PSN store as it is..

Well it does make sense to charge publishers for putting stuff like trailers and demos on the network. As those things are meant for marketing purposes.
