Forums - Microsoft - Ever wanted to know what the inside of the 360 Power Brick looks like?

What you've all been waiting for... PICS!
These are thumbnails, open in a new window to view full-size.

First we have the feet, you don't have to destroy them if you pry them out carefully. I used a dremel to get rid of the superglue but the OP's method of boiling it with a soldering iron and quickly inserting a screwdriver might work better and/or faster.

This is more or less the object you'll see when you get the plastic housing off.

And this is what the bottom of the pcb looks like with the shielding taken off.

A freshly cracked open psu, look at all that thermal grease.

All the grease and screws removed. (View is rotated 180 degrees compared to previous pic)

Different views of the psu, look at the size of that capacitor!

Rest of the pics.

The top of the housing where the fan sits.

Different views of the fan.

Different views of the heatsink and the plate that creates a narrow channel of air.
Note the poorly applied thermal compound and terribly uneven machining of the bottom of the heatsink, which is in desperate need of a good lapping.
I can see why that the 360 itself might not be the causes of overheating, it could be the Xbox 360 Power Brick.

Ok....  That's hot!  Literally!  I can see why the 360 would be overheating...

You know, I can honestly say that I'd never wondered that before. But now that I see it it's fairly suprising. There's a whole lot of stuff crammed into that little box. I didn't realize so much tech was required to... um... change electrical stuff...

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Yeah, and it took me forever to find a link or site that a least opened this piece of crap!

I was really looking for what it looks like too, because I know everyone's 360 power brick heats up fast, so just giving the 360 users some info on what the Power Brick looks like 8)

They should have included the power brick within the consoles case. It's just an annoying waste of space.

I agree, but they wanted the console to be as small as possible, so they took out the power supply and put it in a brick. Do you see the size of the capacitor!!!!!!!!!

Yeah and Soriku that Power Brick heats up within minutes!!!! I'm glad we are heading into the fall and winter season, cause my 360 will be keeping me warm this year!!!!!

Yeah, the capacitor is huge but an internal supply would be a lot better to look at then that huge brick laying in your room.  It really is not aesthetically pleasing and it's so frickin loud!

Lol, they should've at least TRIED to cut down on stuff And put an ongoing fan near where the power brick is.

Should of, would of, could of......its Microsoft, they rushed the product and this is a result.
