Forums - Microsoft - Should I place my new Xbox horizontally or vertically?

Just traded in my old Xbox, (it was sounding like a chainsaw and generating enough heat to keep a family toasty), and put the money towards a spanking new Elite and I was wondering what is the best way to place my Xbox on my glass stand?

It gets plenty of room at the back for air ventilation and the room isn't dusty?

Any help much appreciated.

The wider surface touching the ground the better...

horizontally, less chance of scratching a discEither way I think the heat issue really has to do with what gives it more room. So where ever you put it, make sure it has the most roomto breath.

Heat falls to the ground, while cold air rises, put it standing up, the less heat affecting the console the better.

It depends .. do you have a surface that is sound and doesn't shake ??

If no go for vertical .. I decided to do it a few months ago and had no problems, and I reckon it dissipates heat more quicker.. but then I also install my games to HDD so you might need to consider that too when placing vert and hori..

i swear, i always thought that hot air rises? hence why a hot air balloon uses ..hot.. air?

Just saw Garnett post

Why limit yourself to just two options? Why not diagonally, upside-down, or inside-out?

Or, you could have it suspended between magnets, though this would probably damage your hardware more than any conventional means of placing a console.
