Is someone in this thread actually saying that the Beatles' albums were... slapped together?

Oh, my. I dare you to listen through the entire White Album and then accuse it of being slapped together. It is one of the most subtle/sneaky albums ever created. Sheer genius.

The Beatles albums being "slapped together" is a particularly silly argument. When the Beatles were making music an album was often put together as a cohesive whole of sounds, where the individual songs were part of something bigger, an overall theme. Like the quoted said, listen to the White Album all the way through, it tells a compelling musical narrative almost like a long song with various parts. Albums these days are about getting that single buried far enough back to have the listener hear some of the other stuff in the hopes that another song gets popular enough for some airplay, to get another single.

The White Album is really a classic example of the "anti-single" album. It has Back In The USSR, Dear Prudence, and a few of the Beatles' more modest hits but the album has 30 songs. Hell, the most recognizable song on the album, Revolution, isn't even included in its radio form.

With that said, it's probably my favorite album, despite lacking any of the band's mega-hits. Every song feels as if should be there. No filler, which is impressive for 30 songs.

I can't even begin to explain how much I love Dear Prudence.

Indeed. It would probably rank near the bottom of my top five Beatles' songs... Behind stuff like Strawberry Fields Forever, Hey Jude, and Let It Be.

It's threads like these that remind me why I love The Beatles: Rock Band.

The Beatles are international legends.
Taylor Swift? yeah she is kind of popular with 14 and under guys and girls in America.

Lady GaGa has imo become more influential of an artist when it comes to pop culture than Taylor Swift will ever be. And neither can even approach the Beetle's greatness.

just wait.. once she performs speechless, every single hater will convert.. her album "THE FAME MONSTER" is #1 in japan.. JAPAN, lets see any western artist do that.

Mariah Carey already did that, possibly several times.

Nobody's hating on Lady Gaga, just saying she's not as good as The Beatles. Which even you must agree with. Stop praising her name at every last freakin' opportunity.

Tasteless Folks. It goes like:

Tupac > Beyonce > U2 > Calvin Harris > The Rest

Aww, too bad you didn't claim that. This would've been quite ironic in this whole context and even funnier than the purpose of this thread or the posts of some people here defending the Beatles as if there was anything to defend in the first place.

BTW @leo-j: Plenty of western artists and bands are and were extremely succesful in Japan today and during the past decades. For instance, Michael Jackson, Norah Jones and Bon Jovi are in the Top 10 Japanese album charts for the week ending Nov 28th, Bon Jovi were no 1. the week before (I can't believe I just typed the name of this hairdressers' band twice within one sentence; I'm gonna wash my hands now).

You are comparing a band that has been internationally known for several years, to a pop star that just came out of nowhere about a year ago who has only released 5 singles.

@Montana

She deserves the praise =P
