I don't think any side is going to budge, we shouldn't be trying to convince one another

Seriously. I agree and I'm not trying to convince anyone at all.. So whatever. I'm just saying based on todays standards she is easily as popular as they were back in the 1960's and its now 2009.. Almost 40 years ago, music changes, everything changes.

I dont think anyone argued against that point, they have just been saying that the beatles are better than Taylor Swift

It's not fair to compare the sales of those albums together. Anyone who follows music today, knows that albums usually NEVER sell more than 3 million now a days in the U.S. 5 million is very rare and Taylor is about to do it. Her 5 million, like I said in a previous post, is like 50 million back in the day.

Really? I don't know who told you that, but you're living in a fantasy world I'm afraid.

I mean for a start in the 1960's there were only 3 billion people worldwide, half the number today, so if anything the sales from back then should be doubled for standards now.

And look, Cd albums sell far better than Vinyl or cassettes ever did. Downloads add even more to be honest.

So if anything we should be keeping Taylor swifts album sales as they are now and multiplying the Beatles by 6. Making 5 million seem like a paltry number to be honest, almost a failure by Beatles standards in the modern day. Before you know it Taylor Swift has sold only 5 million albums and the Beatles have sold over 3-5 billion albums (Current sales stand at 600 million to a billion source)

So what if the worlds population went up!? Do some research on album sales. Albums don't sell anymore. It's mostly about single sales now. Albums do not sell huge like they used to. Welcome to the digital age my friend. :)

Oh really? So why did you make the argument of 5 million albums being good sales then if this wasn't about albums? And as I've shown Album sales have increased from the 60's to now by quite some way. And if I haven't done any research, then how can I present research and results?

The world population of the 60's was half, therefore half the market is available, so really an album had to do twice as well back the.

Let's do this by singles then, seeing as my proof for the Beatles obviously wasn't good enough. The best selling single of the 1960's in the US was I want to hold your hand by the Beatles. It sold 5 million copies source.

Worldwide the Beatles have sold 2 singles at 10 million+, 2 at 5 million+ and dozens that are 2 million+ source.

Taylor Swift has sold 3.6 million in total.

Taylors first album sold 3.6 million total maybe... Cause her 2nd album is close to hitting 5 million. :)

I was explicitly talking about *single* sales, but you read *album* sales for no apparent reason. Huh? I can see debating with you will be a waste of my time and effort.

Sorry but who said McCartneys latest album is expected to sell 55k copies?

Because unless its one of his Classical Albums (or one of his Fireman side projects) his albums have always sold at least a million copies WW if not more consistenly since he became a solo artist. He's sold over 100 million Albums with his solo and Wings work.

His last solo album in the US has shipped over a million copies.

I want a source for the 55k

If you're talking about singles, Taylor swift has sold over 15 million digital singles, It doesnt compare to the beatles, but its still alot. And she has the only country song over 4million (Love story), and two over 3 million (Love Story, You Belong With Me),

I still can't believe this is still going, it should have turned into cat pictures by now.

They very first reply to this thread was bang on. I had never heard of her before Kanye West being a douche, just went to watch the MV for Love Story...  This? You're comparing The Beatles to this?!

Amusing YT comments.

Pink Floyds Dark side of the Moon stayed in the billboard top 200 for 741 weeks. Now that's impressive, it sold 45 million copies. It's an awesome album though.

AC/DCs Back in Black sold 49 million without ever hitting number 1 in the US.
