If the game is magnificently great and universally loved, its legs could carry it farther than many think. Maybe that's what Squeenix means. That it'll be very good.

Not to mention FFVII was on a system that pretty much had a MASSIVE cut of the marketshare (probably between 60-75%). And an ad campaign unlike any other for a game of its time along with being virtually unchallenged outside of Japan in its genre.
Whereas FFXII is being split between 2 different consoles with about 50% marketshare, going against a ton of other games in marketing and no longer has the monopoly for the RPG market in the west.

Probably not gonna happen. I can't see 360 owners eating this game up that much. Maybe 2-3 million on 360 and 5-6 on PS3.
This game might has chance to sell 10 million but not as much as FFVII. I believe FFVII had sold 12 million across PS1, PSN and PC. FF series is not as popular during FFVII and FFX but everything can happen in future. FFXIII might revive the series like COD4:MW did for COD series.
