3.) I'd buy a remake of Metroid 2 in a heartbeat.

Seen AM2R? The fan-made remake?

Maybe I should try that.. I just don't like most fan-games.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I don't want a remake. I want a full new 2d game.

2D metroids are great, but you have to remember that the transition from 2D to 3D was much more successful for Metroid than Mario. Metroid Prime is the highest selling Metroid game, while for Mario the 2D games all outsold the 3D games.

Personally, I prefer the Prime series, but I'd love a 2D game on DS, along with a 3D DSi exclusive (as hinted).

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Can't we ever have a thread where people aren't talking about sales? If developers/publishers cared THAT much about sales we wouldn't have any low selling existing franchises would we? Yes Sales are probably the most important aspect when discussing whether to develop a game or not, but it isn't the only one.

Metroid sold ~4 million units

Metroid Prime sold ~2.8 million units

Sure we would. Failed attempts, and games in extablished niches (small but fairly secure markets).

@SmokedHostage: According to this site Metroid Prime outsold Metroid. Though, this site is not infallible...

It (or rather the demo of it) doesn't suck. It is designed like the best of the 2D Metroids.

If you're referring to a '2.5D' aspect, no. Other M already does that. If you mean a classic style Metroid (closer to Super Metroid than either Prime or Fusion) then absolutely yes.

Where are we still so sure that Other M is doing 2.5? There's one tiny section out of the original trailer, and no proof otherwise, aside from an off-hand comment by Reggie that isn't particularly sound from an evidentiary standpoint.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

A new 2.5D Metroid would be awesome! If you're really fiending though, and are open-minded give Shadow Complex a try. Yeah, it's pretty much a straight rip-off, but what a great job they did ripping it off!
