^^ Dude, you're arguing a useless debate. Bottomline is, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare WAS NOT a sequel to 3. World at War IS NOT a sequel to Call of Duty 4. Modern Warfare 2 IS NOT a sequel to World at War, but again, to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare will forever be it's own thing, period.

No I'm not, you're making useless points. Ok, they weren't sequels to them (even though it was numbered as so and takes place in the future). How is that relevant at all when Call of Duty is on the box art for both games?

* facepalm *

Errr....because Coolbeans said one of the SEQUELS that didn't fulfill his expectations was Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare IS NOT a damn sequel.

Observe:

Call of Duty spawned numerous spinoffs and sequels. Call of Duty 2, was developed by Infinity Ward and was released in October 2005. Some Call of Duty spinoffs were developed exclusively for consoles, such as Call of Duty: Finest Hour by Spark Unlimited and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One by Gray Matter Interactive (now Treyarch). Call of Duty 3, the first sequel to appear on consoles only, was released in November 2006 and developed by Treyarch and Pi Studios. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, developed made by Infinity Ward, was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC. A Wii version was developed by Treyarch, called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex [16]. A handheld version was also produced for the Nintendo DS. Another handheld game, Call of Duty: Roads to Victory was released March 14, 2007 for the PlayStation Portable, the N-Gage, and the Pocket PC. On December 3, 2007 it was announced that Call of Duty: World at War would be developed by Treyarch. It was released November 11, 2008 in the U.S. for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and the PC, and on November 14, 2008 in Europe.[17] A sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released worldwide on November 10, 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. A seventh Call of Duty game is currently in development by Treyarch, and is due for release late 2010 and is leaving the World War II battlefield. This was announced by publisher Activision on the night of November sixth.[18]

They seem to agree. Modern Warfare IS NOT a sequel to anything, Modern Warfare 2 is. We're going on story, not number.

Again, who cares if it's a sequel to anything or not? Plenty of things that aren't sequels aren't franchises.

Let's say for a minute that BioWare came up with the idea of KOTOR, developed the game, and tried to get Microsoft to publish it. Do you really think that LucasArts wouldn't have sued their pants off? Why? Because the game is part of the Star Wars franchise. They'd get taken to court and a "KOTOR isn't part of the Star Wars franchise" wouldn't have gotten off the ground without being shot down.

lol.....This is comical now. The OP asks about SEQUELS..................................

Condemned: Criminal Origins - Condemned 2: Bloodshot

F.E.A.R. - F.E.A.R. 2

Gear of War - Gears of War 2

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Now, seeing as all of these ARE SEQUELS and Modern Warfare is not, that would be, perhaps, the reason for my quoting of coolbeans. Interestingly enough, you are the one continuing to prolongue a debate that is immobile.

Since I look just as foolish arguing with such nonsense, I'm out. Just remember, Modern Warfare is not a sequel to Call of Duty 3, which has been the point from the beginning.

Actually, the point from the beginning was me saying that Modern Warfare is not a franchise, go back and look. Sequels are irrelevant to whether it's a franchise or not, and it's pretty interesting (and expected) that you have nothing to say to my KOTOR debate. The only major difference between IW and Treyarch games now is the time period. I never would've had a problem if you said it wasn't a sequel, but you also said it was a franchise, which it wasn't.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_franchises

There's a list of video game franchises, of which you will find that Call of Duty is a part of, while Modern Warfare is not. Again, no problem with calling it not a sequel, but it's definitely not a franchise (which you don't seem to get is what I'm arguing). I'm prolonging a debate because it's an inaccuracy to call Modern Warfare a franchise.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

GTA4 hands down...complete downgrade from GTA SA

Killzone 2 - It was a good game, but not everything it was hyped up to be.
Resistance 2 - Also a good game, but I think they should not have changed the gameplay to be more Call of Duty-esque.
Halo 3 - Underwhelming sequel to a (once) great series.

- Resident Evil 5: It's like they took many of the tings that made RE4 great and threw it out the window.

- The Sims 3: For such a popular series I expected a bit more. It felt like Sims 2 with minor modifications.

- GTAIV: Good game, but nowhere near what I expected.

- Animal Crossing: City Folk: For some odd reason I still find the GameCube version of this more enjoyable.

I see so many people saying RE5, why didn't Capcom just make it on Wii like RE4 Wii edition and use the RE4 engine?

Cause besides of the dozen or so people who said RE5 on vgchartz, there is 5 million other people in the world who bought and probably enjoyed it, that and it wouldn't sell 5 M or close to that on the Wii.

I'm probably certain that if this many people didn't like it on VGC, then there are many, many more all over who didn't like it

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

lol at the Modern Warfare sequel debate.

ITs a hard call...its a new game, new story, new setting...but it does have similar gameplay and call of duty in the name.

I would say that it isn't a sequel to anything...but it is the next game in the series. Actually im not touching this argument...

Straight answer disolitude SP campaign MW2.
Too scripted for my liking.
