-Gears of War 2

-Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
-Just recently got Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 so that'll probably disappoint
-Planning on grabbing Condemned 2 which'll probably disappoint as well
-Grand Theft Auto IV

Edit: Resident Evil 5 as well

I wouldn't really call this a sequel. It started it's own franchise.

Modern Warfare is not a franchise. Call of Duty is, but Modern Warfare is not.

I see so many people saying RE5, why didn't Capcom just make it on Wii like RE4 Wii edition and use the RE4 engine?

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Modern Warfare is not a franchise. Call of Duty is, but Modern Warfare is not.

But................ Modern Warffare is it's own thing. Therefore, it isn't really a sequel, which is my point. Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel.

Yeah, but the perfect counterargument to that is the first Modern Warfare was called Call of Duty 4.

Cause besides of the dozen or so people who said RE5 on vgchartz, there is 5 million other people in the world who bought and probably enjoyed it, that and it wouldn't sell 5 M or close to that on the Wii.

Gears of War2 online multiplayer was a major disappointment for me, the first one is in my opinion the best game I've ever played, still playing it to this date but Gears2 just sucks for some reasons. I hope that Gears3 will bring back the classic gameplay of the original with some addition to it.

My favorite games for this gen:

1. Gears of War    2. MGS4    3. Killzone 2   4. Halo 3(Underated by many)      5. Mass Effect

Was Call of Duty 4 a sequel to 3 though? Why do you think Activision has two teams (as of now) working on two COMPLETELY different types of Call of Duty games? The game didn't sell the way it did from the COD name, but in fact, the Modern Warfare name. If World at War was a sequel to COD4, why didn't IT sell like MW2 just did?

This is why I'm telling you that Modern Warfare is it's own franchise within the Call of Duty name. What that means is, the name: MODERN WARFARE has it's own line now, even though it IS still a Call of Duty game. Hell, they nearly released the game as just Modern Warfare 2. That's the name, that's the brand, that's why it sold that way.

Check on PSN or Live, when people are playing the game, it says: Modern Warfare 2.

I don't care what it says, they still made a decision to stick "Call of Duty" on the box, and sales are a red herring argument as to whether they are part of a franchise. Just because the games are set in a different time period, doesn't mean they are a new franchise when they're still called "Call of Duty." The next Call of Duty has already been given the temporary name "Call of Duty 7." It's just like the Star Wars films, and just because they keep flipping between World War II and present day doesn't mean it's a whole new franchise. There are no "franchises within franchises."

Gears 2
call of duty 3

^^ Dude, you're arguing a useless debate. Bottomline is, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare WAS NOT a sequel to 3. World at War IS NOT a sequel to Call of Duty 4. Modern Warfare 2 IS NOT a sequel to World at War, but again, to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare will forever be it's own thing, period.

No I'm not, you're making useless points. Ok, they weren't sequels to them (even though it was numbered as so and takes place in the future). How is that relevant at all when Call of Duty is on the box art for both games?

Errr....because Coolbeans said one of the SEQUELS that didn't fulfill his expectations was Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare IS NOT a damn sequel.

Observe:

Call of Duty spawned numerous spinoffs and sequels. Call of Duty 2, was developed by Infinity Ward and was released in October 2005. Some Call of Duty spinoffs were developed exclusively for consoles, such as Call of Duty: Finest Hour by Spark Unlimited and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One by Gray Matter Interactive (now Treyarch). Call of Duty 3, the first sequel to appear on consoles only, was released in November 2006 and developed by Treyarch and Pi Studios. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, developed made by Infinity Ward, was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC. A Wii version was developed by Treyarch, called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex [16]. A handheld version was also produced for the Nintendo DS. Another handheld game, Call of Duty: Roads to Victory was released March 14, 2007 for the PlayStation Portable, the N-Gage, and the Pocket PC. On December 3, 2007 it was announced that Call of Duty: World at War would be developed by Treyarch. It was released November 11, 2008 in the U.S. for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and the PC, and on November 14, 2008 in Europe.[17] A sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released worldwide on November 10, 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. A seventh Call of Duty game is currently in development by Treyarch, and is due for release late 2010 and is leaving the World War II battlefield. This was announced by publisher Activision on the night of November sixth.[18]

They seem to agree. Modern Warfare IS NOT a sequel to anything, Modern Warfare 2 is. We're going on story, not number.

Again, who cares if it's a sequel to anything or not? Plenty of things that aren't sequels aren't franchises.

Let's say for a minute that BioWare came up with the idea of KOTOR, developed the game, and tried to get Microsoft to publish it. Do you really think that LucasArts wouldn't have sued their pants off? Why? Because the game is part of the Star Wars franchise. They'd get taken to court and a "KOTOR isn't part of the Star Wars franchise" wouldn't have gotten off the ground without being shot down.

EDIT: Nowhere in that article is a "Modern Warfare franchise" mentioned.
