Forums - Microsoft - CNET UK's games console reliability survey: 60 per cent of Xbox 360s have broken

If you want to extend your xbox's lifespan, never take it to college. In fact, just don't move it from the room it was placed in.

I'm totally invested in the idea of never purchasing a home console with the microsoft label ever again.

heh, fail. Mine has been carted around in my luggage, gone to Florida three times, Chicago once, all in the bottom of my dufflebag...which was not carry on luggage. It has also survived numerouse trips to family and still runs as well as when it was new.

Now, if you were meaning your 360, well mine has also survived a move, and three long road trips. So...no it's not as fragile as you seem to think.

I`ll try again. When you`re given a new machine it is registered as a sale in a shop, because the shop needs to register whetever you pay 300 or 0 for the machine. Thus the shop needs to buy more machine for selling. This gives vgchartz a fail statistics of the real sales. If it`s a repair on the other hand, it will not be registered as a new sale.
Ok? You understand? All of you?

Yes, but given the fact that there are FAR more PS3 fanboys on the internet. And most 360 fans are too busy playing games to bother with the plethora of PS3 fanboys fapping over a chance to troll the 360.

So why aren't you playing games, but instead you are on the internet fapping over a chance to troll reasoning?  I say this because it is only your OPINION that "that there are FAR more PS3 fanboys on the internet."  But another way of looking at it is to say that there are that there are FAR more gamers on the internet that will offend fanboys when antedodal truth be told that the 360 has the worst reliability rate.  So any smart shopper should be cautious to buy one.  Sounds pretty reasonable doesn't it?  Hard to swallow, isn't it?  No other source has sited otherwise without some form of testing.

Because, I'm not a hard core gamer, and shitting on fanboys is just too much fun for me to pass up!

What I said is hardly trolling reasoning, rather it is putting into perspective a butthurt statement. And yes, just this site alone is proof that there are far more PS3 fanboys on the internet. But let's not forget that anywhere you go, you see a literal army of Sony fanboys trolling the 360 in every comment section of everything ever written about the 360. This is not to the the reverse does not happen when something is written about the PS3, but it is at a much smaller scale. I suspect this is partially due to the widespread popularity of the PS2 last gen.

It's funny that people still troll the RROD anymore because it is basically a non issue, and even when it does happen, MS has put a very generous Warranty in place so the consumer is actually safer buying a 360 than a PS3 since PS3 always seem to have their problems AFTER the measly one year warranty runs out. Hard to swallow isn't it?

Why would that be so hard to swallow since it's only a small slice of the whole pie?  We can talk about RROD all day, but that's only part of the issue.  How about E74?  You don't see me trolling RROD, do you?  In this specific case, I'm referring to overall reliability for any product.  And what's also the bigger picture is for some, the hassle isn't worth a longer warranty.  Some mind, some do not.  If you claim that Microsoft is so generous with a three year warranty, it would cover everything.  But it doesn't.  Also, besides giving a longer warranty to cover the problem, why not put forth the effort to make the 360 a more reliable machine?  The time they spend on fixing and replacing machines could be used to make the newer 360 models more reliable.  And again I don't mean just the RROD.  Nintendo and SONY didn't have to do that.  Nintendo already have a very reliable console, and in theory SONY has improved the PS3 built quality.  That's why they don't "need" to give out longer warranties.  It's not just about generosity.  That's only part of the picture.  Another part of that picture is service which it seems both Nintendo and SONY have done a better job with their hardware to the consumer than Microsoft have.  And I know why in regards to Microsoft, but that's for a different topic.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

It's not really that, it's just it party shows that people more passionate about things, i.e. not liking another console or having one break on them, are more likely to voice their opinion than someone who's just indifferent because they just don't care or haven't had their console break.

Sometimes you look at a thread like this and you wonder why the person who started actually really cares in the first place.  You could just care about gaming news in general, you could be thinking about a 360, or you could just want to take a jab at the 360 when you can.

I'm not saying you are any of those and you obviously had free reign to create this thread, just my mind wanders and sometimes it wanders to things like that.

It's a good thing people didn't go into this gen with that attitude or they wouldn't have bought anything from Sony.

Point is Sony finally learned from their mistakes (ignoring Laptop batteries) and you're a fool if you think MS wont.

And Natal is supposed to sweep the world with this level of reliability?

Why can't this be fixed, new components on the mobo, new materials, whatever, 4th year now, unbe-fucking-lievable.
