To the OP, this is why piracy is never going to stop. People justify doing it in their own little ways.

i was given downloaded DS games on an SD card as a gift, i got like 25 on one card. once i had it, i thought there was no point in buying the games. i fi hadnt been given them, i owuldnt have bought them cos i had no money.

but now i know that piracy is bad. i buy games all the time XD im building up quite a nice wee collection.

It has been mention even in PS days that as game consoles bring in more money the more people pirate music. While PS was a huge success for Sony yet at the same time they noticed they took a hit in music sales. Another example, consoles have hurt aquarium sales. The simple fact is people only have so much money. When one company bring in more cash another loses. Probably the huge success of DS had a lot to do with the  piracy on the PSP.

I don't know about games, but studies have shown that those who do pirate spend more money on movies and music than those that don't.

Yeah, in some places you'll expend as much to play something like 3 Wii games as if an american paid over (maybe even well over) 3 thousand dollars, it's ridiculous, really.

wii has piracy as my friend gets all his games free. I'm more concerned about the movie industry.

The movie industry is okay, they have some good ideas in the works (with HD streaming, and soon-to-be-added premium streaming of movie before release (imagine seeing a brand new movie in your home a month after theatre release legally)).

I'm worried for the music industry. Labels will fall, and songwriters will vanish, and bands will fail. Guess it'll be a 'survival of the fittest' but I guess as an aspiring musician, it still worries me.
