EXACTLY.
Nintendo has so many development resources that are completely under-utilized. What the hell is the deal? We can't rely on EAD alone to carry the entire company!
What is Brownie Brown doing?
What is SPD doing?
What is Sora Project doing?
What is Monolith Soft doing?
What is HAL labs doing (Where is our damn Kirby game??)
What is Retro Studios doing (We know they're working on something new...an update please?)
What is Intelligent Systems doing?
And WHAT THE HELL IS NST DOING?!?!
We have the power, money, and resources to completely be self-sustaining. The future of Nintendo lies in first and second party software diversification. We have to start coming up with new IPs that are compelling and possible future franchises. Look at all the awesome shit we had when Rare was second party. We need that again. Look, we haven't had any real third-party support since the SNES, so it's not gonna change now or even next generation. Nintendo themselves must take action to ensure there are no more extreme software shortages by utilizing what is already there.

Half of those groups are working on games. Intelligent Systems, Sora Project, Monolith Soft and Retro are all working on known projects at this moment, though they are being kept hush hush. Brownie Brown is currently working on the next Professor Layton title as well as making a new game called 'Fantasy Life'.
And its not like most of these projects have been dormant. I mean, Intellegent systems, Sora Project, Monolith Soft and HAL Labs have already made games this gen. Quite a few actually. People keep harping on Nintendo and saying they've slowed down but you have to understand...they started this gen with one of the biggest launches they've ever had. And then the following two years carried their system practically with their own software. You can't immediately just turn over and produce games in house like magic when all of your studios have been going non-stop at the same time.

I already mentioned that Retro is working on a new project. We heard Iwata mention something briefly about Sora Project back in February, I've heard no news whatsoever about Intelligent Systems working on anything (although I'll give you that one since they did release a few Wii titles), and I've heard no news at all about Monolith Soft working on anything...unless they announced a Day of Crisis 2 sequel or something. And come on man, HAL Labs has done one game this generation...Brawl. Hardly the output of an Intelligent Systems or other 2nd parties.
And that still doesn't explain NST. What the hell are they doing?? Project HAMMER got cancelled and....? I don't want them working on another Mario & Donkey Kong. Put their asses to work on making a new IP! If you're going to spend the money to start up a first-party development studio here, utilize it properly. My point is, the talent and the resources are already in place to be self-sustaining if we would utilize them all properly. Hell if need be, let the western studios (NST and Retro) focus on making some new IPs to help carry Nintendo going forward, and the Japanese studios and can focus on the existing core franchises.

There's more to Nintendo than just the Wii. HAL has already made 3 DS Kirby titles and is rumored to be making a Kirby Wii title as we speak.
Project Sora IS making a new game, headed by Sakurai, and they are working on, to quote Sakurai "a brand new game like no one has ever seen before". We'll see if they can deliver.
Retro is suppose to be working on a new game following Metroid Prime 3/Metroid Prime Trilogy. We'll see what comes of that.
Intelligent Systems has been very busy this gen, working on three different Fire Emblem titles, two different Advance Wars games, Super Paper Mario, and helping multiple different groups on such games as WarioWare and Planet Puzzle League. And they just finished wrapping up a joint venture with Armor Project (of Dragon Quest fame) to produce Dragon Quest Wars for DSiWare. You better believe they're working on something else. They're pretty much Nintendos most active second party.
Don't forget about developers like Camelot, currently working on Golden Sun DS.
And of course there's Game Freak, who's releasing three different Pokemon games early next year.
And don't discount all of Nintendo's first party companies, who are working on Metroid Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Legend of Zelda Wii
Really....Nintendo and its second parties are set. Its securing third parties it needs to worry about.
