So Dragon Quest VI got announced finally for Japan, to be released on January 28th. And Dragon Quest IX has been out there for almost 6 months. But as usual, for the countries outside of Japan, we have yet to even see a mention of these titles aside from a vague promise that they will come in the future. So you know what that means...speculation time!
With past announcements from Wada himself that they aren't even planning to start translating Dragon Quest IX until sometime after April, that leaves the possibility open for them to also start work on translating and releasing Dragon Quest VI first. As they have already released Dragon Quest IV and V to America and Europe. Yet Nintendo has promised to come in and start helping to advertise the series with Dragon Quest IX, with Nintendo chairman Iwata claiming "the series should be doing a lot better than it is".
So what does everybody else think? Will SquareEnix and Nintendo swoop in and save their hemorrhaging series and try to sell Dragon Quest IX first? Or will they just throw out Dragon Quest VI first with little to no advertising once again like DQIV and V? Or will they try a different approach? With anywhere from a Million to 10,000 units riding on SE efforts each title, this decision may be bigger than even SquareEnix seems to notice.
