x360 does not look like the ps2..

I think the 360 should win, microsoft is trying there best, sony isnt doing anything, neither is nintendo.

personally this info doesnt seem significant at all. its actually to be expected, as this year more people have an Xbox360 then last year. So, realistically, you would expect more software to be sold this year then last year.

This makes sense as MS keeps on touting their great attach rate plus the 360 has had many more games this year with Big hitters like Guitar hero 2, bioshock, and even early on like Lost planet and crackdown.

ssj12 -- it's comparing all of 2006 sales vs. all of 2007 sales, strictly each year on its own, not lifetime totals. And the holiday sales haven't even kicked in yet, that's like a 50% boost over the current totals.

That said, considering the 360's userbase is now about double what it was this time last year, I'm not sure this software increase is all that meaningful.

Does NPD release total software sales by console? It would be interesting to compare those numbers from last year to this year. With adjustments seeming to constantly be made to the numbers on this site it's really hard to discuss software sales numbers from here seriously until we know they're the final numbers (they could easily be changed again next month for example and paint a completely different picture).

Care to elaborate on what MS is doing that Nintendo and Sony are not? Or perhaps its something they aren't doing?

 The smartass in me wants to respond to your bolded text in the OP with the sarcast question of "How long ago did the Wii and PS3 pass their totals for last year? How many weeks did that take?"

....The same ammount of time that it took the X360 to surpass it's Nov-Dec numbers?

Either way, it was just a quick note for those that are interesting. IMO, it's rather important when a system can easily out-do it's past year's s/w sales well before the November rush.

I wasn't trying to say it wasn't important....my family is just genetically predisposed to being a smartass and the obviously skewed comparison struck a genetic chord so to speak =P

More 360s were sold this year so there should be more software sold... Don't quite understand how this is news. :( If there are more consoles out, there must be more software being sold. I'd assume it is the same for the Wii and MAYBE the PS3, but the general law is the more units of hardware you sell, the more software you sell... right?
