It's obvious why Darkside Chronicles is on-rails. What isn't obvious is why they're not releasing a RE4 type of game on the Wii.

Yeah agreed, it made sense without the PR talk... I definitely won't be buying Darkside Chronicles either way. An on-rails shooter just doesn't work with the survival horror genre, it doesn't matter what mask the title hides under it's still just an arcade shooter.
And it will sell because of the arcade shooter thing. Extraction tried not to be.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

| RolStoppable said: A satisfactory answer would have been: "Umbrella Chronicles was an on-rails shooter and it was very successful, so we announced Darkside Chronicles. Going by the name alone it should have been obvious that this game was going to be on-rails too." That's really it. DC was never an unpleasant surprise like Dead Space Extraction, it was expected and never lied about (not that I recall). What Capcom really has to explain is why they didn't make a RE4 like game for the Wii yet, despite that one being successful too. |
listen to the nintendo fan, he has the right answer.

This is reported to be 12 hours, so I am certainly more tempted than Dead Space which is shorter. What I don't understand, why did Dead Space get a significantly higher review (at least IGN to IGN) than RE:DC? It's still on rails, and I never did finish RE:UC because I just couldn't get into the story and I'm just not that into rails.
I think Capcom might really be considering a "traditional" RE on Wii, or at least wants people to think so. They kind of just confirmed again with this that it would be possible, just like they did a few days ago.
I love how self-centered people sound. "You don't make the game in a genre I like so I'm going to bash you for it...." Deal with it. They could make Resident Evil a party game, and they do NOT need to explain themselves. You can't argue that it won't sell well either, because Umbrella Chronicles is one of the best selling Wii third party games. They don't need excuses for you just because you don't like the genre.
Well, I figure if the first Chronicles game was on-rails, the second one would be too. Basic logic really...
This game looks great though; plus there is a reason for its existence, unlike Dead Space Extraction.
The one thing I don't get is the 3rd party attitude towards Wii games. "Wii owners don't want an RE5 like experiecnce", but RE4 is the best-selling M-rated game on the console.
"Wii owners can't handle COD", but World at War is the best-selling FPS on the console.
"Fighting games don't work, so no more DBZ/Soul Calibur", but Budokai Tenkaichi 3 sold 830k and a Naruto game sold 845k.
"Madden needs a new look and All-Play label", but sales were increasing for the franchise on the console every year, and now M2010 is tracking below all of them.
I don't get it. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I'm not going to bash Capcom for making another on rails shooter. Just as long as they can understand why I don't pick it up even though I picked up RE:UC, and that they understand I would pick up another FPS or TPS RE action adventure game.
